Human or Hylotl?

I can't really decide. HALP MEH PLOX.

I'm a pretty peaceful guy, and love helping others rather than MURDERING them. So....

Hylotl are based on feudal Japan, so they're (presumably, we never got Hylotl lore LIKE THEY SAID WE WOULD) barbarians hiding under a facade of peaceful enlightenment who worship their weapons to an unhealthy degree and blame the sword if someone is killed.
Humans, on the other hand, are humans. You're a human.

I tried Hylotl on an RP server, but without Hylotl cities there really isn't much to go on. I say go Human... For now.

The Japanese are human.
Hylotls are based off the Japanese.
Hylotl are Hylotl.

 

When someone makes Juice Box a race you should go them.

 

Maybe play something else until the game is more complete, then choose the race you really like when there is more info available? I usually play human when I'm unsure because humans can be anything, but in games other races are rather limited.

 

Well on one hand you have plain jane humans, which i would assume you are antiquated with i hope

On the other hand you have fish who come proclaiming peace, but in reality spread peace by forcibly pacifying enemies of the state. They also have a superiority complex that would make a high fantasy elf jealous.

 

I voted Hylotl, but I'm going to say Human. Totally not because I changed my mind half way through reading the thread.

I have to say though, Hylotl are pretty cool. They have some interesting clothes and an awesome ship aesthetic.

Meanwhile, Humans are human. So in the end, it's up to you really.

Make one character of every race. Whichever character you play the most, that's your favorite race

 

Asian stuff is cool. Point Hylotl.
Breathing underwater (when it gets implemented) is going to be nice to have. Point Hylotl.

Maybe you can eventually unlock that on any character, but not having to search and/or get lucky makes Hylotl my preference. The lore is irrelevant. You can RP your character any way you want.

I would say hylotl but you might want to wait until the game is more finished. I personally played only a handful of hours on the Hylotl I made when I first got the game, and quickly ditched him. I played a Floran, Human, and Glitch each longer, but I quickly saw what race I wanted and shelved to so I do not get burnt out...i will probably make another Floran after the next patch unless we get ocean worlds, hylotl cites and a load of other features, that I think there is no chance of actually seeing any time soon.

 

No solid evidence, but alot of the hylotl x hylotl lines in the game files hint that the PC is a "peace ambassador", one of many, who are sent out to the stars to spread peace. Im not sure how to access the files, but they also hint that the peace ambassador does work that other hylotl consider 'dirty work'

 

I just reckon they are extremely arrogant proud. I see your point, but I fail to see them as militaristic. Allot of my view stems from the fact that I don't want to be playing as a butthead of the Galaxy.

Yeah...the ones regarding the Peace Keepers can be quite disturbing. For example, why do they take tribute, considering the connotations of the term, which is essentially "pay us and we won't invade you"? Or why are they supposed to be extra nice to them?
