So we recently got to see the human intro. It was pretty sweet. We got futuristic cities, and tentacle monsters, but we didn't get that much information on their backstory. So that got me thinking; will humans even get backstory? I mean, why should we? We already know so much about ourselves, so why do we need lore? However, Starbound does take place in the future, so that could create a lot of different possibilities for the humans' backstory. Here's what I think the Human lore will be like:

To create world peace and to prevent any wars from happening again, the humans alter most of the populations' brains somehow (by mind control or genetic mutation or something) to take away our violent nature, and to prevent us from making disagreements so we can all live in peace (which is how they found 'enlightenment and peace' as said in the into). But the brain altering has a few side affects. Since they can't disagree with each other, that means they can't make their own decisions, thus losing their individuality. And when the tentacle monsters invade Earth, they don't have the will to fight back because they've lost their violent nature. The humans who weren't brainwashed (and a few of the non-brainwashed humans) escape from Earth, in search of a new planet. Basically, their are two factions within the human race: Peacemakers (the ones who were brainwashed) and Warmongers (the ones who weren't brainwashed). The Warmongers invade other planets in order to find a new Earth, which the Peacemakers don't like, because they hate war. This causes a lot of disagreements between the factions.

The theory probably has a lot of flaws, though. What do you guys think? Should Humans have their own lore? If they should, what do you think their backstory should be like?

Of course humans should have their own lore! I really don't like this 'take away violent nature by reprogramming' idea, though. I would like it if humanity actually achieved something without genetic mutilation having to occur first.

I'm sure they have their own lore, perhaps theirs will be even more mysterious than the others lore simply because they are human. To sum up what I think the backstory would be in a single phrase: You only had one job, Japan!
I'm jokin' you know. I hope.

In order to advance their technology and society humans mined the core of the earth so much that it created massive, empty voids and pockets deep in the center of the earth. Struggling to deal with overpopulation and waste, the humans then began flooding these pockets with their waste and garbage, polluting the core of the planet. Earth was now like a rotten egg, foul and rotten but with a beautiful and thin shell surrounding it. It was only a matter of time before something grew within that corruption and hatched, breaking through the earth's crust and unleashing itself upon the galaxy, scattering the humans throughout the stars.

I hope they don't decide to make humans the "ordinary" choice. I'd prefer the humans have a detailed story.

It's okay to show humans as flawed, we know we aren't perfect.

I wonder also what special abilities human equipment will get. Avians get their glide\flying and Glitch super mining capabilities.
Do Humans in typical fantasy fashion get adaptability as their feature? i.e Greater resistance to the elements and biomes.

The problem with a back story is that it can be messed up so easily. I'd rather just invent my own with each new playthrough.

They have a race that is a plant one. (I forgot the name of it.) It probably will have environmental advantages. I think that humans should be the "All Around" type character. They should have a little bit of advantages in everything. At least that's my thoughts.

My only prediction is that someone is going to come along and ruin the perfectly 100% Yes vote the poll has going just because.

Of course they should! Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being fairly generic. It's the nature of our familiarity with humans, I suppose.

Muahahahaha I was that guy! And 2 others, apparently. We already know most of human history. No need to spend time on that, really all that is needed is a summary of what happened between now and year 20xx (megaman reference) but from what I can tell we die from a tentacle plague that appears on other planets. I remember like half a year ago we had pictures confirming a tentacle-type planet, I'm going to assume this is part of the story.

This idea only applies if Starbound is meant to be set in the future, rather than in a fictional universe. I could see benefits either way, but I kind of prefer they make it their own.
    As for the poll:
