I just figured out how to make the outpost's Terramart sell Blueprints.

It's just the same as making a regular recipe, but the output item gets "-recipe" tagged on the end of it's name.

I feel kind of stupid for not figuring this out sooner. It's really simple and was staring me in the face the whole time. It just never occurred to me to make a recipe that produces a recipe.

You can expect an update soon that will make block recipes learned by purchasing the blueprint from the Terramart, for about 250 pixels each. I'm going to do this for the racial ship blocks and Gemspark blocks. You'll still be able to get the whole package of racial block blueprints through the Portable Pixel Printer, for a greatly reduced price.

Hi! ^u^ Thank you for adding the fish plating! I didn't had the proper chance to reply back then: no, there's no old designs I'm aware of. Possibly, more of them can be found at the Official Wiki. Nevertheless, here's something you might be interested in:

This outdated mod has once brought back the Space Station, which was supposed to be the player's home at very early stages of the game development. Some screenshots:

I think it might be the great source of both blocks and custom objects (i.e. signs).

 

Thank you. I've been trying to get my hands on the art for that station since before I started this mod. I originally had some odd plans for it in my Ship Yard mod.

Now that I've taken a much closer look at it, I'm surprised at how strange-looking the art is compared to current stuff. It's a completely different style.

I think there's a few odds and ends I can make use of.

I managed to carefully tweak my archive size to just a hair under the limit, this time. I definitely will not be able to pull off that magic trick again.

I need an external hosting option for future updates to this mod.

I do believe that the rules of the web host I'm using for my RPG wiki disallows large file hosting, so I can't just start a new sub-domain and drop the files on my web host's servers.

Anyone got a time-tested suggestion for me? Something that has worked well for other mods?

 

You might want to use GitHub. A nearly-perfect solution for modding and insta-packaging (you simply linking to the master.zip and the user will always get the latest snapshot).

The easiest way is to install TortoiseSVN. It's a shell extension for Explorer which allows repository manipulations right from your directory structures. All you need to do is:

1. register a GitHub account
2. create new repository for your mod
3. install TortoiseSVN client
   
4. create an empty directory and open it
   
5. press right mouse button and select "SVN Checkout..." option
6. next, in the address bar type in the address of your freshly created GitHub repository and add trailing "/trunk" to it (example: https://github.com/simulatoralive/hull-plating-blocks/trunk ).
7. after the SVN checkout will finish, copy all the files of your mod into the directory
8. next, press right mouse button and select "SVN commit..."
9. in the opened window select ALL files and type something in the description field
10. press "OK" and wait for the files to be hashed and uploaded
11. voila, now you can make changes to the files in the directory and press "SVN commit..." whenever you want to publish a new version or commit changes/fixes

What are the size limits like?

Hrm. I think I have an account there already... I used it for posting bug reports on a few projects. Never hosted anything.

I also remembered where I'm hosting my RPG wiki's backup archives: Google Sites. I just spent a few minutes setting up a site for this mod on it. Probably what I'll go with for the time being. Can always switch later. I recall some irritating hiccups with Google Sites and largish files in the past.

I'm going to do the same shortly. I have to log out of Google to get the proper end-user experience, first.

Edit: Just tested. It's an irritatingly pointless click-through thing, just as I remembered. Google sites hates direct links to files. Oh well. It'll do for now. There's more annoying click-though sites to use.

 

No size limits I'm aware of. I have several repositories, and some of them are over 10 megabytes of compressed sources (along with toolchains). Also, it's direct link friendly.

 

Say, the hardened monster plating ones should have a segmented variant (like , since they're plates after all) too.

 

Segmented how? Can you be more specific? Or perhaps show me with an image?

I thought of doing something like that from the start, but couldn't quite figure out how to make it work. I could easily do a re-colored fish scale block.

 

For a start, a recolored Fish Scale block will do. Beyond that, something like the Ornate Flooring, kinda tiled.

 

Is this what you meant by kind of like the Ornate Flooring?

I built these based on the tightly segmented bits at the bottom of the Ornate Flooring. Not sure if you might have meant the top or bottom of that block. I could easily take out half the lines, so it might look like bigger plates/segments.

They can be easily slotted in as replacements for many of the existing plating blocks, for the sake of testing. If you want to do that, and/or get a better look at them, click on a thumbnail pic and then you can right click and select "Save image as..."

Personally, I like the first one. I've never much liked vertical lines in my blocks, but that's just my preference. Mostly because they can't be centered without using a double thick line.
