I'd sit back and enjoy the backlash against them.

Excited. Your poll is poorly fashioned. Honestly "potentially" excellent game to play. I mean really...

To rip off Starbound is to effectively promise A LOT of what it offers... A harsh but fair staple...

Besides, competition refines games much like a whetstone refines a blade...

    Exactly.

People copy games all the time. Large companies do it regularly.

The thing Starbound has going for it is the huge amount of content we've already been promised. If it is executed well, the game runs smoothly, and it's regularly updated...then copycats don't stand a chance.

The only thing they could do to compete is to make a game similar to Starbound, with different features. If that happens, that's good for all of us. Starbound can apply the best of those features to itself (as well as the myriad features modders will come up with for it on their own).

Then we all end up with a better game : )

Well if they release it before Starbound and it has everything Starbound promises then I'd be happy. So I voted 'other'.

If a company can do a better job than Chucklefish and actually release their game before Starbound, I say go for it. I think Competition would be good, because I reluctantly believe some of the developers got a big head from how popular the game has become =P.

  8. By your own definition, what do you mean by 'ripped off'?

There is a clear definiition between rip-offs and evolution of original concept. If a game is completely mimicking, or even worse than one that inspired it, it is clearly a quick cash grab that is justified to be called rip-off. If it massively re-arranges the original concept, or immproves in in some aspects, then it's most welcome!

Also, knowing Blizz their "Starbound rip-off" would come out only in like 2019.

If we're talking about hypothetic blizz "rip-off", knowing current falling Blizz reputation and how much average gamer spent playing Diablo 3, I would say that would happen only if game would really be THAT good.

In all likeliness their would be unique features that make it stand out when put beside starbound which means either
A] It might be better than Starbound
B] Starbound can learn something from it and thus be better
C] The rip off is horrible

No matter which i won't care very much A or B I might play it instead of starbound, C i'll just play starbound.
In no way does having a game that is similar but of a slightly different flavor hurt another similar game, each game should be able to stand on it's own as something worth playing if it can't then that's just too bad and the superior game will slaughter the other. Towns, Gnomoria and Dwarf Fortress have a similar balance of power, they don't hurt eachother they just exist in balance.

Never understood peoples problem with Diablo III considering it and Diablo II are the exact same thing. The only real difference being you can't change acts once you're in one, you have to reset. Which is annoying, but other than that they're essentially the exact same game. I'm a Diablo II fanboy myself, and even I can see that they are no different from each other.

I'd act disgusted. If it was a copy and not a different take. Like Bound to Stars or something. Not a different version of a space-themed, side-scrolling 2D platforming sandbox with RPG elements.

Other: Would not really care because I have bigger fish to fry in my daily life. I am only in my twenties but I have already seen years of people lifting elements from other things constantly. Even though people say it's copying it really isn't. A copy would be the exact code in every way shape and form and no one can legally do that, only times that happens is china based games and they rarely are even that good.

I think this poll is biased towards being EXTREMELY NEGATIVE.
It's better for consumers as a whole if any product has healthy competition. There's really no reason to get upset, the only way it would draw a large amount of people away is if it was a better game which is a good thing.

Seriously being loyal to something to the point of attacking something that could benefit you as a consumer is just silly.
