How Well Do You Think This Game Will Age?

    Any ideas?

Personally I think pretty well if it is anything like other sandbox adventures as of late. I hope so anyway. I would love to look back on it in the future and be like " man, was that game awesome!" :)

Starbound will have a lot of replayablility with all the generation, player interactions, updates, and content. Well worth 15 bucks.

I assumed those who donated that high were within the development team. That or a REALLY dedicated fan with too much cash on their hands.

    :proper: <-- Or this guy.

I don't think it will age well. I mean, it already looks dated and hasn't even come out yet! X3

it shall age greatly, with the community, constant updates and mass replay ability, this game can single handily keep itself going for an a very very very long time.

graphics don't determine if a game ages well, game play mechanics do. thats why people keep going back to old nes games like zelda.

    I'd date it... (drum roll)

But in all seriousness, I think with proper support, and a good imagination it won't get dull. Also, the community could do cool things like have tournaments and stuff to keep it fresh. Lets take advantage of great multiplayer support!

I'm hoping that at least some of the community is still strong in say... 10 years.

That or a sequel... (Hint hint) :pwease:

With the amount of procedurally generated content planned to be in Starbound I think it'll live longer than us and our kids and maybe even their kids too.

At least as long as Minecraft.

It believe SB has the potential to age really well, with an active modding community the game should be able to live forever or almost forever. That being said theres also the chance that may not come to pass, but i highly doubt that since there are quite a few people interested in modding already.

By your logic Doom (which is still played by fans) must be an absolutely terrible game because of its dated graphics.

no, that's called nostalgia. If you played that before you can play it anytime even after 30 years. Same with music, movies, everything. I play quite old games. But I really can't play even older ones. Same as I don't like playing with wooden toys. I never did. They are not THAT good as some people remember. Same as only few people can appreciate King Kong from 1933.

and it's dated really horrible. If you don't see it you can't see thru other people's eyes. Doom is played by people who played that before. Not because it's a good game :) but because it was a good game. And people who play it now are used to that style. But the same people actually rarely play another "same age" games IF they haven't played that before, like System Shock 1.

You won't really enjoy System Shock 2 atmosphere if try to play it now for the first time (and you can not even play it if you haven't played other games from that era). And still.. it WAS better game when released then all Bioshocks in the time of release.

Don't compare ANYTHING about this game to Minecraft *spits*

I've heard that name enough for a lifetime

(Back-up statement/evidence) Doom aged incredibly well. Hundreds upon hundreds still play it. I know I do.

That was supposed to be a joke about retro graphics, but I don't think many people got it...

The test of whether a game ages well is just this: can someone pick up this game in the future and still have fun playing it? And we won't know that til we get there, but Starbound has amazing potential.

I consider gameplay to be the biggest aspect here. A good example is that my little bro (7yrs old) has fun playing Pokemon games, the base gameplay for those games hasn't changed since the days of Red and Blue

Sometimes graphics will get in the way of fun, it's inevitable. And it's conceivable that we'll get graphics in the future that are better than lifelike. It wouldn't make much sense to make graphics more detailed than the human eye can detect, but it's going to happen, someone will do it just because they can. But Remakes and Mods help a lot here (the aforementioned pokemon is a prime example)
