How to not die in permadeath mode!

I was told by a friend that the game is more difficult now, and that permadeath mode isn't possible. So for the first time, I decided to load up permadeath mode and try it out! And well the actual first time I died due to a glitch, the second time was successful. I may even try to get to the next boss with permadeath mode and record it. I ran out of hard drive space once so you lost maybe 15 to 30 seconds of video, me sleeping in a bed on the ship while landing at the next planet, so nothing really lost. I also over prepared for the alien, expecting it to be harder, otherwise I would have beaten it sooner. But now I'm well prepared for the next bosses. xP

This video is 6 minutes, 51 seconds long, played at 4x speed with not-edited audio (so it is high pitched) and slowed down towards the glitch death, where a monster attacks you through the ground. Haha, this was a fun map, landing on a planet that pelts you with acid rain. What a massive difficulty for permadeath mode. xD Would have been fun.

This video is 1 hour, 22 minutes, 15 seconds long. It's played at 4x speed with advanced sound editing to keep everything sounding normal (no high pitch).

Yes yes, I'm sure many other people have played perma death easily, but I wanted to add in my bit as well. xP There should be a board for youtube videos of Starbound. Like the screenshots, only a media board.

Yes the game is modded! But I did not use the mods to make surviving easier, in fact some of it makes it technically harder by fixing some issues in the core game items that made them easier to obtain.

unfortunately... that validity of the experience is questionable due to you appearing to be using a modded client.

 

Why does it matter?

 

Why did you keep teleporting back to the ship in the beginning of the second video?

 

Because any mods installed could/do affect the gameplay, to have a presentation of 'how to survive permadeath' it would be far better to show it Unmodded. There's no way for the viewers to know what has been altered by the mods.

Lets take Skyrim for instance. If someone was doing a vid showing how to survive on the highest difficulty, but were using one or more of the mods that alter the game, wouldn't you question if they were doing it on their own merit? Or if the mods just made it easier for them?

 

If he says none of the mods didn't alter the gameplay to make it easier then who cares?

Who would spend 5 hours for nothing?

 

You actually trust what people say on the internet? And beyond that, he never said they didn't. I know plenty of people who'd spend well more than 5 hours on something quite trivial.

 

Sure, I don't see the point. He used some shipmod, big deal.

This leaves a bad taste in my mouth for two reasons:

1. You're assuming VasVadum post this with the sole purpose of showing off
2. You seem to be implying that playing the game with mods somehow invalidates the experience/

There really aren't that many mods that just nuke gameplay difficulty. Really it's a moot point no matter which way yo slice it considering the current implementation was thrown together in a hurry for alpha and beta testing.

 

I recommend using the mouse and keyboard.

 

To make sure my location still works. I wanted to beam down into a safe spot, that I had built. So I was making sure I didn't place dirt above my beaming location.

The mod is madtulip's spaceship mod. It lets me build a customized ship, it didn't help me anywhere at all in defeating the boss or surviving. Same with other mods, none of them helped me survive at all.

If you want, I can give you a list of the mods I used. I added a new mod to my game since then which balances out the game a little further by making it harder to acquire specific items. All of my mods are totally balanced out and do not help the player survive longer.

Damn right, I was annoyed it took me 5 hours! I had to use my 2TB HDD for video recording because I ran out of internal HDD space. xD I half expected to go faster.

 

Finished watching the video and good job, it was interesting .

CHEATER YOU MADE THE GAME EASIER AAAH

 

No, I'm not saying that the player's experience in the game is in anyway invalid. I play several games with a lot of mods on them. What I was saying was more aimed at the particular point trying to be shown. And I never at any point made an accusation of him 'showing off'. What I was doing was offering critique on presenting the point. No where in any of my posts did I 'call out' the OP, only offered insight on the presentation.

That makes a bit more sense in my opinion, to have the mods used listed with the post. Thankyou.

 

Well I always strive for balance. It's why I don't like servers right now because anyone can walk right into your server with a hacked client and their client allow them to do cheat things while others don't, including walking right in without creating a new character or anything and have all the stuff they could have cheat got on single player. I wish you could force server side save files and file verification so people can't cheat. As a server operator, I need to ensure the complete legitimacy of everything that happens in the server.

 

When I read "Modded Client" I think of a Hacked Client, you mean a modded game right? A Modded/Hacked Client would mean it works on Servers since its only Client side, not game/server side... like a X-Ray hack for Minecraft, it works on Servers cuz its a Client Side hack/mod.

 

Permadeath isnt any harder than Normal mode. I succeeded in reaching tier 10 in about 25 hours and streamed the whole thing on Twitch. Long as you are lucky enough to avoid the random one hit meteor kill, your golden. Just takes more patience than Normal and beaming up to your ship at nighttime.
