How to I get rid of this pet?

Having the option to have a pet is great, it really is, but being obligated to have this hideous glitch pig (not even a robochicken??) that will devour any accidentally dropped food I would rather hoard for myself is very disheartening.

How do I remove it? And don't just tell me "use a mod" because servers don't always have the appropriate mod and can ruin the fun for other players who want to have pets. I just view forcing a player to have a care obligation to be outright bad game design.

I rather like the Purchasable Pets mod though, not only does it make it optional to have a pet(Not sure if it works for all the custom races), but you can have MORE THAN ONE. What's not to like? It's not really that bulky or gamebreaking, wouldn't hurt to ask your server host to include it?

 

Just want to point out you don't have to interact with the pet at all. Though that doesn't solve the problem of if one doesn't want one on their ship in the first place.

 

I usually just kept mine locked in the cockpit, since the pet can't starve anyway, it shouldn't eat stuff you accidentally drop either, it should only eat things from a bowl, that you have to buy, if you really want to bother with feeding it :/

I imagine that's a problem, because it's not always by choice of yours, it should be trained or something. You wouldn't want YOUR pet to eat whatever happens to be in its reach, would you? It might not be safe for it.

 

Hence why I am slightly toxic about this unwanted creature stealing my food or even preventing me from clicking on things by getting in the way. I don't really even want to have to look at it, as I find it unappealing.

Nah, I think they mean if they're trying to sort inventory and if anything at all doesn't quite fit into bags, they'll lose it cause the pet will eat it.
OR accidentally break a container, everything will spill out and the pet will be on the scene eating it all, I know, cause that's what happened to me...You missclick ONE platform and you lose like half the good meals :<

I find the pet rather annoying. Every time I return to my ship it follows me and gets in the way of me opening chests.

 

If I just so happen to accidentally break some chests and my pit fiend comes over and gobbles up my delicious food, it's a problem.

It would be great if it's either obtainable in some way (petshop at outpost maybe) or if you could just capture (toggle) it via S.A.I.L.. Or just a checkmark in the character-creator. It wouldn't be that hard to make both sides happy

 

Placing chests on your ships floor is rather a waste of space. It would be efficient to go for chests on top of platforms.

 

I hate cats.

 

I do place them on top of platforms, I use crates and I stack them on top of each other. I can't access the top crate from below so I have to jump up and my pet follows me.
