How to fix character wipes temporarily.

I mean, sure, I can't prevent it all over the internet, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to try if someone wants to. By that logic, people shouldn't have tried to end discrimination.

The reason I care about such bad behavior here more is because this place used to be so friendly, and it's sad to see that have gone away.

 

I can agree with that, I'm not saying it is wrong to try, just that it isn't a particularly productive way to spend one's time.

If discrimination had existed solely on the internet, then it never would have ended in any way, shape or form. Rude and disrespectful people have existed since the dawn of time (and as such, have been present online since the dawn of BBS and eventually the world wide web itself) and there really isn't anything that anyone on the face of the planet has been able to do in terms of ensuring that the greater populace utilizes some form of manners and respect for there fellow man or woman. Some people just happen to have that type of personality, and although we as individuals may not agree with it, nothing we say or do is ultimately going to make any bit of difference in changing that.

I can understand that. I'm personally new to the community here and when a game gets a large amount of marketing and publicity (as seen when games hit Steam, the early access program is both a boon and a curse) it can have a dramatic impact on the existing community as a flood of new users come storming through the gates. Starbound has been absolutely crushing on Steam since the first day it appeared and it would seem that many of the lesser mannered folk have also made there way onto the forums, it's inevitable unfortunately, but other than doing your part to submit reports and let mods know of any extreme misconduct there really isn't much that can be done.

I'm sure things will quiet down again around here and return to their previous state eventually, it'll just take some time as people trickle in and out, the game is extremely popular at the moment.

 

lol im just keeping a list of items so when the patch comes i can spawn the items in and continue playing my char

 

I keep track of planets that I found good stuff on, helps to recover pretty quickly after character wipe

 

To be fair, I'm starting to think the Steam early access release was a mistake. I've been following the game and pre-ordered through the Starbound site, so I was well aware of what I was getting into. But I don't think the Steam store page does a good job of communicating the actual state of the beta. They're trying to talk up the game in the little early access blurb, which is understandable, but it has the effect of suggesting a game that's much further along than it actually is.

 

This is true. Steam should do a bit better job of communicating what "Early Access" is, and developers should be a little harder on themselves when writing blurbs.

That said, "Caveat Emptor." I don't understand how people will drop $15 or even $50 on a game without learning *ANYTHING* about it other than the marketing.

 

Massive off-topic arguments aside, does anybody know how to keep the game from crashing when you try to access the navigation panel on a 'fixed' character?
