How to fix character wipes temporarily.

Are you stupid? it's a beta, they said if you don't want character wipes, don't play until it's more stable, like phase 2 of the beta

 

Heh yes, keep on putting off the inevitable. Vest more and more time into those old saves. The reckoning WILL come and instead of losing that save now, you will lose it with hours and hours more progress sunk into that futile endeavor.

You keep your small tears today, for tomorrow brings a sweet , sweet torrent of saline ambrosia!

 

I didn't pay $15 to beta-test this game. If I was a beta-tester, I would expect a decent compensation, say, at least $20 an hour instead.
I paid to play the beta version.
If I happen to report a few bugs or make a good suggestion, that's just an extra the developer can only hope for.

 

...what kind of betas have YOU been in? I want in on that.

In all seriousness though, the whole point of an open beta like this is to allow user feedback to shape the final product. Helping point out errors and suggest improvements is a huge part of that, and a lot of people find that fun! If you don't, then just play on your own.

As for the people saying no one should stay on previous versions, why? If they don't like the patches that wipe progress, then the community won't gain anything by their updating except more rant threads.

 

This is NOT an "open beta". Open betas are free of charge. This is an "early access" game. I believe that I am not AT ALL expected to report bugs - paying $15 to help further development should have been enough.
And like I said before,
if I happen to report a few bugs or make a good suggestion, that's an added benefit.

 

Part of "Early Access" is that you're agreeing to assist with testing in exchange for getting Early Access to the game. You preordered the final, complete, finished, released game.

You're free to NOT provide any testing or feedback. But then why do you have an account here?

 

I don't think that is true. I never agreed to any testing, I just paid $15.
Maybe I am mistaken?
Can you find something in the fine print about this? I never read it.

 

You don't have to contribute if you don't want to. If you don't want to help, though, then why are you complaining about the changes intended to improve the game?

 

Here, I'd say the Beta FAQ covers it.

On Steam, http://store.steampowered.com/earlyaccessfaq/ repeatedly uses the phrase "and give feedback." Valve also recommends that if you don't like the current state of the game and find it unplayable, you should stop playing it until there are further updates. Or provide constructive feedback.

The OP was a suggestion on how to avoid character wipes until you are ready to let go of an old character.

BTW, I have finally adjusted ore distribution tables to my liking with respect to titanium and platinum. If anyone wants it, or if anyone wants the damage scaling fix, I can post those files.

Stop worrying about the conduct of individuals you hold no control over, this is the internet, not everyone is going to act in a way you consider to be appropriate.

 

If someone is acting like an asshole in real life, it's unacceptable. Why should it suddenly be acceptable on the internet?

 

Nobody claimed it was acceptable.

However, it isn't something you can prevent, is it? So why cry over spilled milk? A pointless endeavor if I've ever seen one.

 

Lets be honest here. The people who are trying to keep their old saves are not reporting bugs nor are they even trying to contribute to the beta testing at all. They just want to play an unfinished game until they get bored then complain when things aren't the way they want them.
