Actually... Steam would be a super easy way to distribute the beta (since they are already approved for Steam) and a super easy way to patch everyone without server-crushing rushes to download the beta or update to subsequent builds. My money's on Steam-focused beta/early access.
I want to participate in the second stage, but my brain does not want to wait any longer so I will guess I will jump in at the first stage because why the heck not

I played the trial M & B, so I am not attached to the characters. Now I'm just waiting for a specific date.
Hmmm. I may participate in stage 1, depending on when the beta will be available (I'm becoming a very busy man, and, no, Pokemon X/Y isn't to blame. At all. Honest). Otherwise I guess I'll be able to help the team a little later in stage 2.

Actually I've just been playing pokemon fire red. Old school games rule, however starbound will definitely take over. Thanks for brightening my day Tiy!
To be honest, i think people will still play the stage 1-beta even though they hate bugs and loosing their saves and then go all rampage about it. Yeah... I guess you can't avoid that. How about making a part of the forum just for bug-reporting and stuff like that, divided into different "stages" of bugs like the really gamebreaking ones or only small bugs. It will defineatly help a lot!
Only to those that pre-order. You still have the chance to pre-order after the beta has actually been released.
A little note: having fresh eyes on the game at various points during each stage will help, so don't feel you have to join at the beginning of any stage, and if you want to avoid spoilers, you don't have to stay too long.

By the way, I hope that the developers will be fair and will not be specifically create the first stage bugs. To punish too impatient people.
