It's kind of an empty discussion at this point. We have yet to experience the Beta, we don't know how good / addictive it will be so far though we all obviously hope for the best. And a game's quality, on its own, does not always have a direct correlation with amount of units sold, a lot of it will depend on the release date, what other games are released around the same period, the marketing, the reviews from various gaming websites, whether 4chan and Reddit decide it's inferior or superior to Terraria and therefore proceed to bash the game whenever possible or produce a positive grassroot marketing effect. And let's not forget to mention the price at release, and the Steam deals that will follow.

Could be the case that it fails hard because the game is not good.

BUT THATS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY PESSIMISTIC. (It's impossible that it fails, just because of the music.)

    Let's go for the 10.000.000! :D

I'll be successful. Even if it isn't it still will be great for those who bought it, although it not succeeding is hard for me to imagine.

I imagine that over a period of a few years, starbound could probably sell somewhere around 3-5M copies.
Of course, I also think it has the potential to sell far more than that, but we'll have to wait and see.
