How successful will starbound be?

I am saying players will lag if they don't have the right data card for it or graphic card.

....I hope the japan people do things right there....

 

90% of computers sold come from the main computer companies.

I'm sure a Chinese card is the same as a European one.

 

The starbound team is currently working on pre-release optimization. They want people to like their game, by not making them think they need to buy a brand new PC to run it.

Last I checked it was running at 30 FPS on a single core processor, 1 GB RAM, and a fairly old video card with 128 MB of VRAM.

Anyway, theres no reason this to have harder RAM, etc, to use this than say, CoD.

Fixed that, and went back to check some facts.

 

Well, there is around 1916 pages of forum members with about 20 members per page. So that is around 38320 members total. If all those people buy, there will be 38320 copies sold right off the bat. Then, you have those people tell friends who may also buy the game. Let's just say everyone gets 2 friends to buy the game. thats an additional 76640 sold, for a total of 114960. But then you have to factor in the number of friends they have join. So if they brought 1 more friend that's another 76640, for a total of 191600. Then, because of the awards and great reviews posted, the number of review sites/videos/whatever-you-have-or-call-it are too great for me to factor in realistically. Those people who buy it from those may invite their friends and you get even more copies sold. So, yeah the number grows and grows and grows. Especially, when the game gets translated to different languages.

We can't forget that there's bound to be tons of lurkers on the forums that just read and haven't joined, and, tons and tons of people that discuss the game elsewhere, like unofficial forums or just youtube. I'm sure many, many more people are looking forward to the game beyond the thousands of registered forum members here.

 

If they released it now, unfinished, at a point that's stable and contains most of what they wanted? Over 200k, easy.

Then charge $5 for content DLC packs every few months as they continue completing the game?

Oh man, they could make a killing. (If, you know, they wanted to take our money.)

 

Well Tiy has already said many times that he fully intends on all updates being just part of the game, meaning there will be no microtransactions or purchased DLCs. Which is a very good thing.

 

3-5 million probably.

 

That's kinda what I was saying later on.

 

My "guess" will be between 5 million to 10 million... That is, assuming that Starbound will stay alive for a very long time. I do not see 10 million copies as impossible, it could reach that many over a longer period of time, it has enough potential to get that far.

 

Hopefully, if they will see sales in the millions they will actively develop further for the game. Too much potential for this genre.
