You went through this partially because the Guide NPC is a useless pile of *Bleep* & partially because there was weak Tutorialage for Terraria. I believe that Starbound is gonna do better in this regard, because doing a worse Tutorial/Intro than Terraria will be so hard to do that it would be quite a feat to manage. :p

I still can't imagine travel to high difficulty Planets being allowed to be possible... even with outside fed Coordinates... Any sane Dev strives to protect people from this kinda error, & I believe it IS an error indeed to try to survive on a high difficulty level with a starter Character at any time. Either ya have no choice but to be destroyed, or ya get yourself OP & break the beginning of the game. Lose/Lose situation right there. I can understand the appeal of a Disc One Nuke, but usually, Devs try to avoid such things. Such things can tempt people to try to use power to substitute for skill. :yoda:

Make new character, go with starting gear to level 100 planet, die.

I'll probably go to one pretty soon, making sure to put my valuables in storage. I might even go with nothing but a sword, so I can just run in, see what's there, die, "-not even mad-".

The second one's available. Might as well.

  7. I'd visit one when I have the right gear for it.

Is there even a very good reason to go to a Lvl 100 Planet? How could it be profitable to colonize a shitty, war torn and hostile mob infested planet? If you've got Lvl 99 gear, then you've got good enough gear to conquer any other planet :S Why worry about the Lvl 100?

The spirit of the challenge, mostly. I believe as long as there is another step to take, people will take it eventually.

Im pretty sure on a level 100 planet, its not gonna be as easy as going in, loot, leave~ im pretty sure things will be well hidden~

It has also sometime ago occurred to me that Difficulty 100 Planets might have Monsters that can travel with a seriously stronger movement speed than a starter gear newbie player. & what if there's such a thing as Invisible Monsters...?

Well, if you can set up a good enough base and traps, Level 100 mobs might drop some amazing loot and money. Plus, seeing how it is a Level 100 planet, there might be some amazing treasure and ore deep down underground that you can't find on a lower level planet. We'll just have to wait and see. :)

I might go to one right in the beginning if possible, explore a bit and die from 1 hit. :lolwut:

Depends how long it takes me to explore a couple level 1 planets, and a couple level 2 planets, and a couple level 3 planets, and a couple level 4 planets, and a couple level 5 planets, and a couple level 6 planets, and a couple level 7 planet....

Well I think you get the idea, im gonna take it nice and slow. There is no reason to intentionally cut a game short for yourself afterall.

I've heard the "it will be sooo hard, guys" thing before with Terraria. Hopefully this game actually puts challenge levels on planets in a good way (and not cheesy artificial difficulty). While I'm usually against areas requiring multiple players to fight in, if this game turns out to have companions or squads or whatever, one could simply make them disabled in multiplayer so that the same sort of opportunity to clear an area exists in both modes.

I'm going to wait, set-up a nice home somewhere, and enjoy my normal game experience, when I think I will be able to handle a level 100 planet, I will head off to one.

I will refuse to land on any planet with a challenge LESS than 100.

If Starbound has a hardcore option I will put my character on hardcore than go on a suicide mission to a lvl 100 planet as soon as I finish the intro
