Question that some of you might know, but i couldn't find solid information about..

I know Starbound was announced back in February 2012, but was it being worked on for awhile before that?
If so, when did it first go into production?

How long has this beast actually been in development?

Well if initial design and brainstorming count, it started before even Terraria.

If you are talking about ideas, then I think it's a really long time ;)

  4. Tiy's had the idea for quite some time, but for actual development time, I've found these posts:
I recall mention (as I don't have my IRC logs from before December 2012 to confirm exactly) of an old team and codebase that was scrapped around mid-late 2011 (and November 2011 also rings a bell for the new one), so I'd say the above are correct (and George is a dev and stuff).

If I do the maths right, about 5 millenniums. Give or take.

    Very good question indeed!

Considering that the devs weren't working full time on the game up until the preorders begun, I believe that they have made a lot of progress in 2 years, I'm impressed!

Wow, they've been working on it since 2011, 2 years. Well, they are a really small team, so I kinda expect that.

they actually started to decipher the bible to start making this game so give or take 2000 years :giggle:

2,018 years I think. Tiy was alive in -5 AD and got blessed with immortality so he could create Starbound, which is prophesied to bring the world into an age of peace! ...Followed by a lack of focus in jobs and government...

It turns out the sole purpose of the universe was to create Starbound. It took 13.77 billion years, but finally the wait is almost over. Of course, once it's released, the entirety of reality will come crashing in on itself... but for an awesome game like Starbound, it'll probably be worth it. :p
