How is Starbound being funded?

    This is so damn amusing and disturbing at the same time.

    I'm sure the devs have a enough capital to survive long enough till Starbound is released. They did choose to go about as a game publisher as well, so I highly doubt they are in dire need of funds. A good thing for them, and they'll very likely be making a lot more when Starbound is out. :D

    On the livestream, Bartwe went offline for a phonecall, job related. He's looking for a side job, so that's at least one person that's in need of money. It's what I fear, I feel for them and I want to help, but aside from buying Wanderlust again, I don't know how to help... :/ Though, I don't think him needing a job is alarming or terrible, I wish it didn't have to be something he has to do...and that goes for any of the devs.

    I'd very much like to pre-order and play beta, alpha etc. I dont care if there are glitches etc. Allowing the community to play while they are building it will give them funds and feedback on what we most would like to see in the game. No matter how it goes it will be miles better than terraria we can already see that, its going to have story, better spriting, and so much more interesting content rather than just random throw ins.

    Please let us Pre-Order and Test PLEASE ;.; I cannot play anything until I can play starbound. Starbound has quite literally ruined all other games for me until this thing comes out I cannot focus on anything else... ;.;

    I would also love to pre-order, or even just donate. Heck, if the game does get released for 10-15 bucks that's extremely under-priced and generous for such a great game.

    Devs understands, that lower price - means more buyers. I'm pretty sure most forum users will pre-order game in first day - but majority of potential buyers is out there...somewhere...and probably never heard about Starbound...damn, sometimes I wish I had not found about this game year ago. Just some day I will login to Steam, spoted SB and said "woo, this game looks like Terraria in space! Gonna buy it!" - without all of this waiting! :rofl:

    If they do get to the point that they're in dire need of cash, I think they would preempt that by putting up pre-purchases/preorders. They are handling the publishing of other games and would be pretty competent if they manged to secure the rights to those as well. They would very likely have their own development plan and a proper financial plan, so I wouldn't be too worried.

    I'm thinking they already got it covered. If they did run into any trouble they'd have the entire community behind their backs.

    I have already stated wanderlust as a possible means of funding their projects, but it's simply not going to fuel the development for this long of a time, since the number of people that buys it dwindles on a daily basis. They need much more than a part of the profit from wanderlust in order to fund a game this big, I'm afraid.

    lets be honest guys, they may be working out of their own pocket atm (which is how alot of small ventures grow big before a huge break) but once the game is released they are going to make back all of that plus significantly more money JUST FOR THEM INDIVIDUALLY, let alone what chuckle fish have as a company. this has over 12,000+ garanteed sales (number of forum makes) which will properly make the money they spent back and it's on steam so random buys and buys off press release will pump it up significantly.

    The bourgeoisie are funding this endeavor, it is being made however-
    From the blood, sweat, and tears of the proletariat!

  13. I'm sure that whatever source they're getting money from, it's part of the plan to cover that once Starbound starts selling like a beast. It's a good investment.

    I'm sure they're getting loans or something like that, and they know when the game is out, they will be millionaires. Well, not millionaires, but wealthy.

    I Personally dont think the game is near completion, hence the lack of open testing and preorders. Its a shame, because they would get a lot off support.

    This is not true. The Starbound Chronicle has 16k people registered to it just for the release date.

    The thought of loans brings chills down my spine. Man. I hope this whole thing pays off.
