How is Starbound being funded?

Every night, before I sleep, I suffer from the insomnia of not knowing how starbound continued for over a year without proper funding. How is Tiy funding for this company? Is he actually using up his retirement fund from his off-shore bank account in order to keep the game going? I am now a proud owner of wonderlust, so are there any other ways for me to help Tiy and the Devs out? I simply cannot sleep knowing that the devs are using up a non-renewable source of money in order to make this game; there just has to be some way for me to keep their monthly budgets in the green, and if we can contribute more, I am definitely inclined to contribute more.

I was just thinking about this the other day. About how they're pretty much working for close to nothing at this point. Are they just waiting for all the money when it comes out? If so, I think I'm just going to go give them some money. Like a donation, but using Carrier Pigeons. (Carrier Pigeons should TOTALLY be in te game, by the way...)

 

In recently thread "Post something..." - one moderator said that Starbound devs are using their "last life-saves". That mean they are paying from their own pockets for stuff - and don't forget that, their need to live - bills, food, seas of coffee...

 

I don't understand why we can't pre order yet. I don't care if they don't tell us the release date yet, but at least let us order and help.

 

Preordering starbound is nice, but remember, no matter how good you think a game is, try to preorder as sparingly as possible, not for starbound, but for all games in general.



Anywho, I think Tiy need some Gimmick to get some more money than just wanderlust. I sincerely hope nothing bad happens that makes him spend all of his money before Starbound comes out; it may be strange to think that all that money will vanish in an instant, but getting into an accident can take a lot out of you.

I can probably get a carrier pigeon by making a blood offering of 20 carrier pigeons to the dark master, but how in Tartarus am I going to get 20-50 dollars?! Work!?

I do believe Tiy has some money from when he worked on Terraria, so pretty much it's all out of their own pockets along with the bit they get from Wanderlust and stuff. I hope they open pre-orders soon, I don't mind waiting 6 months after I pre-order as long as I know I'll get the game as soon as it releases. I rarely Pre-order but Starbound I want to get.

 

Yeah, I think it said on Steam that Terraria sold over 1,6 million copies. I think Tiy got A LOT of money from it.

 

Terraria probably made a heaping bunch of money, but it's been a long time since terraria last updated. I wonder if Tiy is splitting beans in order to have enough money to maintain all 3 projects (Treasure Island, Stardew Valleny, that one game with the randomly generated space people) at once. That's smart money management, but I sure hope they still have at least $50,000 to $60,000 as of right now; I think that's enough, or rather, I HOPE that's enough.

 

Well, Stardew Valley they're only publishing I believe. So that's not that much. Treasure Island is a revamp, and mainly one of the artists is working on it. They are a decent size team so splitting between everything they can balance it rather well I'm sure. But eh. They're doing fine, so I highly doubt funding will become an issue.

 

I really hope that they're all doing alright too, I've thought of this several times. I'm not sure how much it costs to just publish a game like TAW or Stardew Valley, but I imagine it's not something small necessarily (licensing, etc?). Anyway, it really would be great for everyone, provide SB is ready, if the pre-order beta becomes available soon. I'd imagine Tiy might have a little money from Terraria, and maybe Rho's husband works and can support her as breadwinner, and Wanderlust: Rebirth may help some, and maybe some of the devs work side jobs or something, but I cannot imagine it'll cut it for long. They've got to be getting down to the wire pretty soon I would think.

Oh, and it's Treasure Adventure World, not Treasure Island.

 

The direction this thread has gone in is silly because I think Tiy is European anyway, isn't he? If I'm right about that, If you were sending cash monies, Euros would be the way to go, anyway.

 

He lives in Britain. Any jokes about physically sending him money via pigeons was clearly a joke said seriously...
