So, I just learned that trying to recover a Hardcore character using OSX time machine can lead to a loss of your whole Universe. Yesterday I took the day off and built an empire in a new Nightly universe, spanning 4 solar systems with 70% of the planets having a decent base (ie, some crops and a crafting station). Since they are gone gone gone and I have to accept that, I wanted to start a thread for those building projects that get wiped away with the passing of time. Feel free to contribute if: -You build structures everywhere with whatever you have left over from your last excursion -Your style is to be quick and loose rather than planning an epic build. -Especially if you're on Nightly or play only Hardcore characters Here's the full album: http://imgur.com/a/3JnuG The character I was trying to save I just got the above ground portion of the Martinus Outpost on Skull Beach ready, so named because of the bone maw. High tech home in a Radioactive system. I make gardens everywhere obsessively. This was from the last big Unstable release, wiped and then went Nightly. Pretty ugly, but it was a construction in process, function over form. The stacks of crates use this mod: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/item-broadcaster-hyper-storage.1745/ which is amazing for being a loot-whore and not spending all your time opening different containers Grappling hook and/or Skyrails are sooooo much fun. Second planet, starter home #2 I try to disturb the natural environment as little as possible. Second desert, starter home #3
So the deer FernWorrier had a good second life, but was claimed by a meteor (on the same day I complained that meteors weren't frequent of, no less). Also in her lifetime, uncovered a really cool sword (I'm on OSX 10.8 if you're going to ask for coords) It was in a vine chest just above the magmarock layer. The special effect is a leaf attack that rapid fires from a globe, similar to a magical spell from that staff... Good for kiting, but best used when there's a large open arc.
You're great at building, your imagination just spirals off in such a beautiful way, looking at your creations.
I used to just make a landing platform and scour the surface for resources on every planet in a system, but I'm trying to be a little more like you (though perhaps a bit more modest). I'm doing (and documenting on YouTube) a semi-realistic play through. I build a shelter for every night. Not necessarily fancy or even with a bed (if I have the resources, I will). I don't just dig tunnels straight down (typically) but try to build semi-mineshaft styled holes and tunnels. It's making the process of Starbound progression take a hell of a lot longer, but honestly it's making it quite enjoyable. So I'm converting to the "build homes on every planet" style of playing.
And before all that updates, i did build not sturdier buildings and farm, and now currently, i gonna make farm tower, sky buildings, and even more buildings, when i have time to harvest everything.
Care to link us? Also, just came across an awesome video that should be of interest to all you low tech enthusiasts: [DOUBLEPOST=1435012554][/DOUBLEPOST]Another round of screenies Tribal shrine, sandstorms and cactus gardens Alas, may she rest in peace, knowing that critter should eat for days.
It's a weekly serial I'm doing. It's not a typical "Let's Play" but actually a narrative as I build an explore. Well, you'll see. I'm not sure if people will like it, but I was trying to get a handful of episodes up before posting much about it. You can find the playlist here - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDxVcSbkjPbbRTLAzapXhDLuC2LZHLa4W There's also a Build playlist which is pretty boring. I keep meaning to link in the videos to it if people care about building, but I'm new-ish to YouTube. I haven't set aside the time to figure that all out.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled nightly several times over the past few months, but keep forgetting to take screenshots of my progress. It's really fun building villages out of ruins that you find on the starter planets and populating them. The gates holding water back are an attempt at a faster watering system than the can. Presently it doesn't work because standing liquid above a certain level de-plants crops.
If you're interested, there are several automated farming solutions here (though most require a little wiring knowledge): https://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/3eig3c/new_automatic_irrigation_farm_design_post_patch And nice little outpost!
Thanks so much! This was super fun to play around with. I made one entirely with the technology available to me: wooden gates, and two switches. The first is a big red button that I can throw a red ball on to hold the filling gates open while I'm harvesting and planting, and then retrieve and triggering the second one to dump. It's been a big building weekend, but first some beautiful and strange encounters while adventuring: Terrain generator produced a floating island. This sub biome had just started and there was an apex village below it. Glow biomes are so magical SCIENCE! The makeshift original base grows organically. Incidentally, the purple-haired human who spawned in the base looks like my sister. So I'm keeping her undisturbed by respawn Playing around with colony deeds is super fun as well. You'll notice that I use gates that count as doors, but keep the tenants from being chased by monsters. Vertical tenant farms! Having the deeds close means you can activate a bunch, then drop down and collect again on your way back up. Next time I'd put the towers closer together and make their rooms bigger for more furniture. You need tech to enter them: blink and morphball is easiest, but with a crouch and dash you can still get in.
I think I'm addicted to building these days I'll only post a few images, because I fear this thread is getting image-heavy for some. But the complete set is in the album linked in the first post. Cheating my way to explore all the different colonists available. They're locked in from a central lever. A little encountered battle arena. I had to lock the more savage Floran kin in for his own safety (He wouldn't leave me alone!) Industrially themed ocean outpost #1 My current implementation of the irrigation system Varixai introduced to me, and my favourite build right now. The console opens the gates to fill the water, and then the button opens the portcullises to drop the water. They're set up so that neither works if you try to have both on. Haven't figured out how to make timers work yet, and frankly it's satisfying to push buttons. And finally, the Apex ship in progress that I'm trying to do thematically. Main floor will be science lab, and testing chambers below
Checking Reddit is bad for me and results in compulsive building, hehehe. Two albums of some building in an asteroid field. The main base: http://imgur.com/a/G9wC4 Scattered little bases: http://imgur.com/a/XyCnN
Things are brewing. I've taken upon a different type of building... guesses? Also http://i.imgur.com/uamUUmD.png And http://imgur.com/a/LVION
Isnt that ship a randomly generated structure from FU? also those curtains are not on the bars.... breathes heavily
hehehehe, the Wreck assets are actually a dungeon left idle by CF in the files but never used. Both FU and SSS have resurrected it to a certain degree. I just used it as a training exercise to start my building experience from the dungeon level rather than in-game. And yeah, the curtains were also a result of that process, they've since been fixed.
