Hi. Its me again. I know that this is my second "How does one get" Thread. It's because I'm an idiot and Youtube has nothing I can find on the matter. Anyways, I don't know how to get a "Grappling Hook" I want one REALLY badly because I don't like the climbing rope... It's two handed and is a one-Use item. Can anyone help me out?

There is a recipe for it on the robotic crafting table if you look in the files. Takes durasteel, climbing ropes and pixels from what I can tell

You also need 20 of perfectly generic items.

Only found one of those in a chest...

Iron hunting bow kills the ufo in about 6 shots fyi and it does about 20 damage to you with copper armour.

Perfectly Generic Items are dummy data. You can't actually do anything with them. They are what all items that are coded incorrectly default to.

in other words, you need to have beaten the game in order to craft a basic item that every new character needs out the gate. cool.

And encase you dont know how to get the Robotic Crafting Table, Kill the UFO (Spawned via "Distress Beacon", get the Molten Core, make the "Metalwork" station, get a BUNCH of iron, and make the iron into steel bars (Yes, the Iron makes "Steel Bars" lol) and make the Brain exacter, kill mobs until you get a superior brain, then finally make the Robot, and kill him, then get his Drop, and make the Robotic Crafting table :)

Beat the game? theres 3 more bosses after the Robotic crafting table, THREE, thats not "beat the game" and still, its in beta, the game right now is no where near as done, so later, the game will be MUCH longer. so the Grapple Hook will be a early/mid-game item.

From looking at the game files the grappling hook is coded to take 20 "durasteel". An item of that name does not exist in the files and that's whats showing up as the 20 Perfectly Generic Items. Chances are it was suppose to be "durasteelbar". Those interested in fixing this now can do so by going to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Starbound\assets\recipes\tier3\grapplinghook.recipe. Open it with notepad and change { "item" : "durasteel", "count" : 20 } to { "item" : "durasteelbar", "count" : 20 }. It'll make it so you'll be able to craft the item now without having to wait for a new patch.

Damn, its that easy to mod the game... so wait, my files, are my server files, doesent that mean, if i mod MY game, my server is modded too? Smart, but that will anger some people lol, guess if you want a Separate single player and multiplayer, use the Server Hoster from the launcher. (otherwise your universe will be shared between single player and multiplayer)

Unless they changed it this patch then most things are client side, meaning whatever you change on your end will effect what happens on the server. So no, if you change it in your files it will not effect everyone else on your server. There's probably some things that you can change server side, but I'm not sure what those are.

Well, My private server runs off of MY universe files, witch is the same as my Single Player files, (Witch is what is suppose to happen) so what ever i do on multiplayer, will be there on single player (And vise versa) so i was thinking, "If it shares my universe files, what about other files?" witch i thought would work, since Multiplayer mods are a thing, but it seems the only "assets" folder available for Multiplayer to use would be the same used for Single player. So thats what im thinking of...

i guess someone needs to test it to confirm either way :/

common sense and basic logic dictates that you shouldn't even have to beat a boss to craft such a basic item. it should be craftable right out the gate using moderately easily obtained materials. for reference, look at terraria's grappling hook (pre-1.2, because f* gemhooks ). all you had to do was find some iron to craft chains, then obtain the hook uncommon drop. wasn't just handed to you, but was simple enough that even new players could obtain it without much trouble.

But... i just said? Ok, like i said, the reason the Grapple hook is giving after 2 boss fights (roughly), is 1, its a good way to move around, and would be OP at the start, 2 The bosses are a way of making sure the player only gets the hook if they are ready, making it less OP, either way the bosses are pretty easy :) at least for now... :giggle:

I thought you had to beat the Dragon to be able to make durasteel? That'd make it 3 bosses if so, or tier 4.

Probably, i have yet to get there, so probably 3 bosses lol

The grappling hook takes a fair while to make, especially if you don't know what you're doing - I know I didn't find a hook for ages the first time I played Terraria because I had no idea how to get one.

In starbound at the moment, you have to beat three bosses to get there... but it honestly isn't terribly difficult to do. Really though, a big thing is getting the various techs, like the double jump, butterfly flight, gravity manipulation, ect. which greatly boost your mobility. I've generally found that matters a lot more than the hook, though the hook is definitely handy.

I dunno if it should be quite as late as it is presently, but I'm not sure if it really takes -that- long to get it.

I made a short video guide (about 1 minute) showing how to craft and use the grappling hook.
