How does armour work?

There are 6 slots for armour and when I try to mix and match various armour the stats don't add up. Also, regardless what armour I'm wearing I still die in seconds - armour doesn't seem to work...?

Three are vanity slots (Left), the armor in those slots will not have any affect on your defense and are for looks only.
Three are armor slots. (Right) This is where you put the stuff that you want to protect you.
There is also a back slot (Far left) that also has it's own vanity slot as well.

The one with the eyeball is vanity and I thought that was the one on the right, and armor on the left. o_O

It is just 1 set of 3 pieces of armor and a back item. Then the eyeball space is the vanity or what you will see your character looking like.

Oh boy, that explains a lot. I was wondering why I was dying so easily while wearing titanium armour - I'd got them in the wrong slots. I only had my clothes for protection!! So the vanity slots are the ones with the eyeballs (I didn't know that's what they were)? Those are on the right not the left. So anything in the right slots is for looks only? So I can wear clothes over armour I guess.

That's a bit like Terraria in that respect then.

Yup, very similar system to Terraria, all in all. Armour on the left, vanity items on the right. Items in the armour slot have an effect on stats, items in the vanity slots are purely cosmetic.

Did you really get all the way up to Titanium gear with clothes in the armour slot? If so, that's pretty impressive I'd say (in certain respects anyway haha).

Yes the slots with eyeballs are vanity only, which means anything in those slots is for looks.

    Wow... That is impressive. O_O

Don't know if I'd be able to handle getting to titanium with just cloths as armor. But yes like others mentioned, basically like terraria; felt like mentioning that game in my original post, but I didn't want to assume that everyone has played it; as I know not all have. Glad I could help.:)

I once went through the game with low level armor until i got endgame armor, that was before mandatory questing however. The trick is avoid all combat, spend all your time underground :p

Well in the original stable that was pretty easy to do, since you could essentially skip tiers of armor.

Avoiding normal combat is easy/simple, but not so much when comes to bosses. Where in lies the problem with that. At least for myself. ufo was pretty simple, not easy, but not hard either.

Can't say much on the first boss as I haven't tried with of tier armor with that boss. I play unstable so I hadn't had the luxury to fight it when I started my character, as it didn't exist then. Do plan to do so, since I keep everything I find or want; as well the things I have used. I did however go back to see the boss in my current tier, so I at least know whats up thankfully with that boss.

Currently at durasteel tier with the party to go into next.:)

Right now doing something like that with the bosses would have taken me a heck of a lot longer, and more micromanaging bandages. >< well for myself anyway. Still impressive with people able to do that though. I guess I play at a slow pace than the average player. I just like to take my time.:D

So, perhaps to get into some specifics... how does the armor value of armor work? How does it change the damage something deals to me?
