How do you pronounce 'Hylotl'

    Given the vaguely Japanese aesthetic, I always imagined Hylotl pronounced "Hyu ('Hee' u) - ro - tu - ru", where the 'u' sounds are very subtle and the 'r' sounds somewhat like a cross between an 'l' and an 'r'. Then again, I may just be weird.

    I might just call them Zoras maybe. Would that technically be racist? I'm sure calling them Fish would be rude.

    Also, it feels weird pointing this out, but if the Hylotl are sort of Japanese based, shouldn't their name be Hyrotr? Because of the lack of a difference between l and r?
    For example, instead of Lobo, they would say Robo, right? Then again, i'm no language expert.
    Also please don't accuse me of being racist!

    Lets turn this thread into how to be racist to starbound races.
    Glitch = Toaster
    Apex = Chimp (because they're apes not chimps and it really rustles their jimmies.)
    Human = I don't ACTUALLY want to be racist so... n00b?
    Novakid = Air-head
    Floran = Not sure about this one
    Avian = Chicken
    This guys on the right track. (It's a just a joke don't worry xD)

    That's kinda what I was thinking. It's not really an 'r' sound either, though. Try making the sounds "row" (in an American accent, without rolling the r), "low" and "doh". If you pay attention to what your mouth is doing, you'll notice that when you say "low", your tongue rolls off the front of your palate and flicks your teeth. The sound is closer to "doh", but with some of the "low" tongue flick and more of the "row" mouth shape. It's hard to notice if you didn't grow up around a language using the sound, since our brains get hardwired during infancy to recognize a particular subset of pre-programmed sound patterns used in speech. That's the same reason why native Japanese speakers who don't hear native English speakers while they are infants have a hard time with certain sounds that are used in English, such as the more pronounced 'l' and 'r' sounds.

    But it's not a stereotype as far as i am aware, it is how the language works, so what is racist about it?
    And again, i'm no language expert. Edit: "Impossibru!"

    Actually, implying that Japanese speaking people inherently mispronounce English words is a stereotype. While it may be true that many native Japanese speaking people have difficulty with the English "L" sound, it is a stereotype to apply that difficulty to all Japanese speakers. Typically, making generalizations about a group of people is stereotyping and is frowned upon - even when your intentions are to make a simple joke.

    Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk about it. Just pointing something out that you might not have considered.
