It hasn't been two years for me - I've only known about Starbound since April. But I guess I stay hyped by...not thinking about it all the time? Every time I get a daily update I get excited and read it and check the forums a bit and then I move on. There are HEAPS of other things I'm doing and getting excited about right now, so I don't feel the need to keep pushing it. It goes in cycles - sometimes I'm really into it, sometimes I just don't think much about it for a few days or a week or two.

And I guess it's two other things. To me, the anticipation is a big part of enjoying something, and tbh hanging out on the forum and reading the updates is much, much more fun than it is pain. And secondly, I've never really thought the beta was coming out in the foreseeable future (i.e., within less than a month). I mean, sure, at one point I thought it would come out in July, but that was in May, and it kept getting pushed along like that. The beta still looks like it's coming out in a month or two (has to, really) so nothing's changed and I'm still satisfied. It can only get closer from here on so I'm happy!

I think I forgot how to become un-hyped.
Jk I'm not freaking out like some of the people are about it, little excited that's all.
The Devs, post daily updates, so people won't lose interest. I think after every single one of the daily updates I am a little more excited for the game.
Also I don't stay on the forum just because of the game (that's why I joined it). I just enjoy chatting with people with alike interests. Iv'e met some neat people on here. Jonesy, Immortal Frog, Tassina, Alaizia, Brensage, Bacon, and Lachee are a few of the pretty cool ladies and gents Iv'e met on this quaint forum. ;)

  4. I'm 'hyped', but not that kind of 'hyped'. Just keeping it cool on the forums and browsing as usual. Discussion here, ideas there, the works. Once the game goes live (beta or otherwise), then I can go all out.

was hyped when I saw the game

    then stopped hype

then hyped when pre orders came out for like a month. Hype was getting bored. Then they did daily updates and i was like cool hype whatever

now Terraria had a big update and there's a bunch of games and its almost to the point where I don't care which just makes me sad that I don't care much anymore

look what you did to me tiy how will i cope

Terraria has a little bit of Tiy in it, too. (Check the old 1.1 trailer, he gets blown up at least once)

I don't consider myself 'hyped,' really. Just patiently awaiting. And planning out how I'm going to play once everything touches down. Part of it involves waiting for a huge crush load on the download servers to slowly fade away. :p

I find that if you get hyped you burn out faster at the game when it is released than if you had a passing interest and tried the game. If the game was any good to begin with it would more than likely catch and hold your attention. But some games are not for everyone. Case in point: Hearthstone

I was pretty damn well hyped for that game, but waited for a very very long time for a beta key when Blizzard started giving out keys for hearthstone's U.S. beta. By the time I did get my key, I had no interest left to give the game an honest try. So I played through the tutorial, gave them 10 bucks even though it is free to play and dawldled for a few hours and was eventually decidedly dissapointed in the experience.

I tend to avoid getting hyped about stuff. Even if I end up liking it, if it doesn't appease the level of hype attained, I feel I lose out on entertainment value.

Here is my thoughts on "hype". It's needless. you can sit here and visit the site everyday and pray and hope for beta, Or you can just keep your self busy with other things. There is a lot of good game out that you can play to spend your time or you can pick up a hobby. Dare I say even "forget" about the game (that is if you payed your 15 or whatever many dollars) when you remember "Hey I pre ordered Starbound I should check up on the progress". To try to keep "Hyped" is to just burn yourself out on the game with out even playing it.
Or you could just go with these classic quotes
" Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet."
    Jean-Jacques Rousseau
"Patience is necessary, and one cannot reap immediately where one has sown."
    Soren Kierkegaard

I had hype for alooooong time, then i sorta lost it and moved over to other games, then i came back to the forums and gaine hype once again.
That said my hype will probably die down once again before realease.

Well, hype is a cycle for me. It never dies, really. Even if I lost all interest in Starbound at this very moment, the second beta got released, all the excitement would just come right back anyway. It's not like once hype dies, you completely stop caring about the game, even when it comes out. That's why some of the people confuse me when they say "The hype is gone, I don't care about this game anymore, I'm not gonna buy it when it comes out." Maybe I just don't understand it. My mind interprets it as "I love ice cream so much, but since I haven't had it in two years, I don't want ice cream ever again."

That being said, I avoid getting hyped. I just calmly track progress, wait until I can play it, and be excited when it's released. I haven't even played Terraria 1.2 yet, or half the games on my steam list. Warframe keeps me plenty occupied anyway.

K, here's how it works for me
    [IMG]

    Basic math stuff right?
1 - I found out about starbound on terraria forums.
2 - I red alot about starbound, also found out that Blue is on the forums as well. I was carefuly reading his thread of announced things for starbound back than.
3 - I eventually lost my hype for a few months, I checked the website only 1 - 2 times in 2 weeks.
4 - Alot has been happening, daily updates, Roadmap and pre-order got me right back to the full hype state of mind.
5 - And again, I disappeared, because my hype went to low numbers
6 - Right now I am here with the beta around the corner, I feel the waiting finally payed off!

This graph may not be accurate but I can't keep track of my hype to create accurate graph, can I?

I only found out about Starbound earlier this year, and my hype has only grown since then. Especially now that my beta-sense has started tingling. The last few days I've kept browser tabs of the main site and the forums open 24/7.

The fact that I'm bored of all other games at the moment probably plays a big part aswell.
