To be 100% honest i hate it. We're getting spoon fed info and i dont agree with it because its going to remove a lot of the splendor and mystery that would be in starbound. Also i still hold the belief that the devs were pressured into this decision.

I agree with most of this. If this feed gets cut off, there are going to be considerable elements of the community that are likely to go ballistic for a while until things settle down again. Is it good that we are getting these updates? Maybe. Is it nice? Yes. Will it last? Probably not. Not unless they want to give up all their secrets, and I doubt they want to do that.

Yeah they were pressured a little bit, but that comes with the fact that they are in possession of 1 million of their fans dollars. How long can they reasonably play the ambiguous mystery devs after that entered the picture. Sure I protected their right to keep us in the dark, but some people spent over one thousand dollars on a game that we get little to no real information about. IRC excerpts and a few streams of devs shooting guns and breaking blocks, a handful of outdated engine videos that showcase zero gameplay, in fact, no trailer at all currently. Again, I respect their decision either way, but there comes a time when consumers who have already purchased your product need to be given something in return.

I like the updates, and so far they haven't shown anything that would kill "my splendor", I mean if seeing a crafting screen, a search bar, and one of a bazillion helmets kills yours, then that's your own issue.

Besides, my money is that these daily updates will not be everyday until beta.

I like them but somehow I dislike it.

I like it because they are giving us information of their progress, and I enjoy learning more about the game.
But I think I would rather a larger newsletter that just summarized the progress for the week.

Either way, I have learned to be very patient with indie games since I've been waiting for this and Cubeworld for a long time, so I guess I enjoy new info available.

I can see why ppl WOULD hate it, how? Well maybe there are ppl that just go on to check if the game is out,
and they want a pure free experience, you know those who want to find EVERYTHING by themselves, and be suprised.

But it's not info. They aren't spoiling anything. It's just letting us know what they are working on each day.

Yeah I get what you are saying, but disagree with the notion of "oh I just dropped 1 or 2k now listen to my demands" that to me perpetuates the stereotype of gamer entitlement. Ok you purchased the game before hand, yes you dropped a ton of money onto a game you believe will be good, emphasis on believe. That doesn't entitle you to information about the game just because you want it. This game has been on the radar of the gaming scene for quite sometime and the devs are super open about almost everything they have done especially with bartwe and Kyren hosting coding livestreams to show actual progress on the game. My point is a preorder is a preorder you are showing faith in a game that doesn't entitle you to info just because you dropped money, if the devs wanted to show daily progress then fine I guess that doesn't matter, in my opinion weekly would have worked just as well.

There is a lot of this game i want to experience myself and it might not be here at the current moment, but the daily updates will eventually have some huge piece of info that will explode onto the forums and just ruin that part of the game for me.

TLDR: Dropping money onto a project shows faith and does not mean you are entitled to information and should pressure devs into a descion they didn't want to do in the first place

i would settle for weekly updates, but i like this, it really gives a sense of whats going on. For those who think they are spoilers, its not as if you have to read them, it is a chooice to do so!. So i really dont understand the hate

i don't know, somehow i can understand your opinion about "you paid for faith, not updates" but i don't think i can completely agree with it. Yes, it's kind of my own problem if i'm paying money for a game nobody knows a lot about, no matter if i pay 15$ or 2000$. but on the other hand i think it isn't only positive if everybody thinks like "hey, i show my faith in them by paying them and now they can do what they want cause they are just so awesome. In german there is a phrase called "das leben ist kein ponyhof", i don't know whats the english version. It means life isn't easy all the time. Sometimes you have to do things you don't really want, but have to because of the pressure of anybody else. In this case anybody else means the purchasers, and anything you don't want means showing off a significant amount of content before release. No, purchasing won't make you able to decide or even influence anything, at least not more than if you didn't purchase, but i can understand if people would like to know what the devs do for their money.
I think the updates area huge step and i want to thank the devs for being great enough to do this.

Again @tojo: regarding your decision to explore everything yourself: i don't feel the same way, but if you are feeling spoiled by reading the updates, why are you reading them? Feel free to check the headline and then skip it?

They could have made the roadmap updates weekly instead of monthly, and I would have been just as content, if not more. These updates don't actually tell much on the progress of the game, and go about making the mistake of having everyone think the game is abundantly playable.

one thing about daily updates is if you follow them, you might ruin the surprise and anticipation aspect when you finally get the game, I have nothing against it, but I won't be following the homepage to dissect the information because I want the thrill of 'its my first time to see this ~ wow...'

just as tojo said, and I completely agree

Tough I think that updating the roadmap takes quite a bit more time/effort then just writing a few lines of text and taking a couple of screenshots each day.

That depends, technically one could say one is an investor when perodering a game, and as an investor i am entitled to see how business is going, so i'd have a right to see updates. Also in the normal proces of creating games, the devs often show off what they have made to the investors and the publishers, and they (publishers/investors) even have a say in what feature should be taken/focussed on/dropped.

So the entitled on information kind of depends on your point of view.

Even if you do it 7 times a week? Is the roadmap really that complicated? Also, I hope they already have weekly status updates on their progress or something among the team, though it wouldn't surprise me if they did not, considering Tiy's aversion to commitment and proper development/programming responsibilities like deadlines and schedules.

Except the role and responsibilities of an investor are very different from that of us, which ammounts to kickstarter/indiegogo backers. WE are customers. We paid for a product before its release and for a few extra doo-dads. The developers are under no obligation but their own to release information on their unreleased game to us. (that being said, releasing nothing is probably as bad a decision as releasing everything) Telling us what is happening every day does seem nice but is entirely unnecessary on their part and can instill certain negative aspects within a community.

Don't pretend you're an investor. Because you aren't. You didn't buy a percentage of the company on which you receive dividends or which you intend to sell at a later date for profit. You pre-ordered a product.

I am not saying i see myselfs as investor, nor do i have the pretense i just say there are people wo do.

The difference between kickstarter and a funding like this is that in kickstarter they are required to deliver the game in the end (its in the kickstarter rules, i dont know how they will go about if something isnt delivered that has been funded but as a backer you can claim your money back)

But the main reason why they should keep the people who pre-ordered happy is because they will be the once doing most of the mouth tp mouth spreading of the game. And they will also be the ones who write either positively or negatively on a lot of fora, websites and other things where people come and check for new games. So if you want to promote your game, it would be best to keep the masses happy
