Same here. I was assuming you needed to beat the Ufo Penguin boss to get them but I can't find the Distress Beacon in any crafting station. I've got the materials required but I simply cannot find the Beacon in the crafting table anvil or the 3d printer(though it is highly possible I overlooked it but I"d think after 5 or 6 run throughs I'd have found it by now). Is this a possible bug or is there another way to get them now?

oh that's how....found something saying you gotta dig near the core of the planet, and I vaugely remembered a quest mentioning that but when I looked at my current quest it didn't say anything about going deep into the planet. Just that I had to find them. Also it seems I confused items

You have to mine them now, I think they start spawning halfway down or something like that.

Interestingly, you have better spelling than a lot of people I've encountered on this forum

Is there an easy way of getting down to them? I've tried just digging down with the MM and also trying to use the wooden elevators both of which take far too long. Any tips?

Core fragments are as the name implies fragments of a planets core.

The only place to get them is at a planets core and the easiest way to get there is to dig downwards until you reach said core.

Every starting world has a mine on it, so one tip would be to explore the mine until you reach the deepest point and dig from there (may or may not save you time depending on the mm level, location of the mine, and mine layout. But you likely want to explore the mine either way since it often contains some amount of basic ores like copper and iron).

Another tip: Prepear a flag (or even better a teleporter if you have access) before you go down there and put it at the core and set it as a teleport point, for future easy access.

And a last tip: In the current stable you can teleport up from underground, but that's likely not going to be possible in the future (at least not without a consumable item or something that may be hard to get). So keeping "i need to be able to get up the same way i go down" in mind while you dig downwards tend to be a good idea for saving time. Off course if you enjoy spellunking (cave exploring) you might wanna skip that and take a different route up then down to explore more.
