How do I fix the lag?

First off I would like to start by saying I have updated my video and audio drivers. My computer more than meets the system requirements for this game as well. I can play games like battlefield 4 with no problems. This game seems to lag very hard while jumping or fighting and sometimes jumping AND fighting. The frame rate sky rockets down. Sometimes it feels like the mouse is laggin behind where i move it as well. How can i fix this? Compatibility mode is off and im not running the steam overlay in the background either. I've no more ideas on what else i can try. My resolution stays at 1440-900 in all my games so i really dont want to mess with that. Other than that, great game!

First of all, this is not "lag", this is FPS / Stuttering.
Secondly, this game is currently in beta, and not optimized for anything, so it might have performance issues. You could try running it in OpenGL mode, maybe this performs better than directx.
(Funny to see tho, my machine would not be able to run BF4, but Starbound is perfectly playable, occasional FPS drops aside near structures with lots of background-fan thingies)

Thanks, I've tried openGL, makes it a bit better but still it rears it's ugly head. I've been dying quite a lot due to this stuttering. I guess I'll just keep in mind that it's still in it's beta form.

RAM seems to be more important than graphics power for the game at the moment. The game lvoes RAM at the moment, but does not seem to use my graphics card much.

i have 8gs of ram, should be enough yes?

Should be, I average 1.2gbs used by starbound.

wonder why it's stuttering when i move and stuff then

    Because its not optimized.
From what ive read everyone has some smaller or larger issues, even on highend machines.

    You could try this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/211820/discussions/0/648813727953725108/
Seems to work for some. (But dont hit me if it doesnt, i use Linux, so i cant test this ;D)

i olny got 3 and i dont lag
something else might be the proplem
i olny lag when theres too meny npcs on screen
mainly apex towns and avian skyships

you do have a very strange resolution, maybe try changing that?
the game is pixalart so i cant look that diffrent

I have the FPS issue too, on a machine that's kinda crummy. Seeing people with wonderful computers have the same issue makes me very hopeful optimization will bless me, too. :)

By the way, I see CPU usage going up when playing Starbound, I haven't heard of RAM being the issue. Lot of processes that run wild, maybe getting in the way of each other. Let's hope for beta phase 2 soon...

i can confirm that lowering the resolution, well raise your fps by atlest 20-30 frames
    so i say do that

If you're zoomed out to the max in the game settings it tends to have more problems. I find it works better if I'm at 3x zoom - probably because it's drawing less to the screen.
