How deep are the worlds?

I think Tiy's already said that the Core of all Planets is gonna be completely impassible & of finite Depth, so the issue of 'digging through the very center of a Planet to the other side' is already dodged/evaded *Cough* I mean solved. :p

If I remember right, Terraria's Large-Size World Block Height Max was over 4,000 Blocks. Therefore, I fully expect the Max Block Height of the largest possible Planets in Starbound to be 20,000 - 22,000 Blocks. :lolwut: I assume the 'average' Planet Max Block Height will be 4-5,000ish. :yeahhhh:

Keep in mind, the blocks in Starbound are bigger than the blocks in Terraria.

I assume that there's gonna be plenty of Planets in Starbound that's bigger than Planet Terraria as well... Possibly including Gas Giants & maybe Saturn-like Planets. :p

Oh damn, i misunderstood the topic...
Of course Minecraft isn't infinite. ( to the Bedrock. )
I think there will be somewhere like Hell in the very deep.

I don't think there'll be a way to completely destroy planets. If you want to fuck it up and remove all possible blocks , it'll stay there with ony what can't be removed,

Fact: we can walk around a planet on the surface.
Question:How about walking around a planet underground?
I mean: A planet has 10000 blocks at surface > It would take 10000 blocks of walking in 1 direction from point A to point A > Walking around the planet
BUT: If point be is 500 blocks UNDER point A (wich is at the surface) How many blocks is it to get from point B to point B when walking in a single direction at constant depth?
Option A: Still 10000 blocks: In this case the planet is not round but rather has a "portal" at one extremele that leads to a new Extreme:
Picture: Paint. Starbound Issue 1 Option A.png
Option B: Less than 10000 blocks: In this case the planet is a sphere ( or close) wich is more realistic.

Picture: Paint. Starbound Issue 1 Option B.png
BUT that would "Complicate" some block math. ie: A block would be below 1.00000...00001~2 blocks! Vertical tunnels would be IMPOSSIBLE
Picture: Not skilled enough to make.
I hope you understand my point and would apreciate an answer.

Omnipotententity already said that making spherical planets is much more complicated.Planets will be like Option A or they'll be infinite like in Minecraft.

I woulda swore I thought Tiy already said that Infinite Depth Planets are now VERY unlikely because him & the Dev Team has foreseen a problem now after Forumite Feedback:

They imagine a situation where an Infinite Depth Planet can have SO much Resources on it that there's a danger that a Player can be satisfied with 1 Planet & live on that Planet forever Terraria Style... & what the Dev Team WANT us to do is desire to eventually see more of what Starbound has to offer & explore MANY different Planets & have many Adventures & experiences. (Though not excluding us from having a Homeworld &/or House of course.)

Like Minecraft, it isn't infinite depth underground, it's just infinite on the surface.

Yeah, I know, to semi-simulate being able to walk the surface of a Planet & pretend it's not a Tabletop Planet. I was talking about just Depth in this case. ;) Now that I think about it, infinite depth with finite left-right Length would be borked. Even as is, left-right is not infinite-sized, just Pac-Man Portaling. :giggle:

Well, anyway, no complaints here. I'm all for Starbound having significantly different Laws of Physics from Real Life, because Starbound Physics are bound to let us do way cooler stuff than we can do irl at this time. :D

just wanted to say I now want to get something that has a speed upgrade effect and build a bridge around an entire world.
    just cause.

*First... all this mining digging talk makes me want to play/dig/mine.
*Second... I like having a hot steamy burny core that stops me from digging too deep. No Balrogs for moi, please.
*Third... Hrmmm, didn't I read somewhere that the surface won't be infinite but possibly/eventually loop for some or all planets... like a version of the Flinstones where you see Fred & Barney run past the same window/plant a zillion times before they get to where theyy're going... only waaayyy better?

Indeed, it will be pretty hard to do a spherical planet. If the planet is wide enough, it shall not be a problem when you're on surface, because you'll not see that the planet is in fact round .. But at much deep places, you'll start to see the roundness, and i think it's really hard to create that on the screen .. Further more, the gravity center will always be the same; the center of the planet, and so the camera will always have to pan so that your character has always his feet under and his head above.

So i just think they'll do as they dit it in Terraria with the underground lava, and maybe adding variations of the "molten core" that burns you. Who knows, maybe some ultra high pressure gaz, or a cold metallic core ( on a steril planet .. ) .

I apologize for my english, i'm french ..

So, planets in Starbound could be infinite? i like that idea if it's possible:DD

I wonder if we can Dig down to close to the Planet Core, stick a huge powerful Nuke in the Hole, Remote Detonate it, & destroy the Planet that way, Armageddon Movie Style? & when I say 'huge powerful', I mean the Nuke being about as big as the Player themself! :mwahaha:

I say the core gives you expensive resources... that would be worthwile the mining.
