Hostility of humanoid NPCs

Every time I find some sort of settlement that would appear to hold a peaceful set of people (no dungeons) everyone drops what they are doing and draws weapons on me. I do not attack anyone, I don't draw any weapons, and don't cause trouble. I believe that if an NPC is a guard and does not want me near their structures, they will typically say "halt" or indicate so before trying to kill me. I am an Avain character, often attacked by others of the same race as me. I am also marked for death by any pirates, who are supposedly neutral. Any help?

You did something to piss them off. These things don't tend to happen for no reason.

EDIT: Here is a list of structures I have found that KOS you or warn you to leave.

    Glitch castle - Warning

    Avian Temple/Crypt - KOS

    Glitch blue thing - KOS

THESE ARE THINGS I FOUND. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHERS.

If it's one of those metal pyramids, they attack you right off the bat, no matter what.

In towns make sure to holster any weapons you have out, guards do not like you having weapons out in towns!

They don't like intruders in their temples. That's supposed to happen.

-Peaceful townsfolk don't even have weapons to attack with, they'll just run if something happens. The town guards will alert you to put away your weapons or they WILL attack you. I chose to run around with an instrument out and just play songs the whole time I'm looting their places.
-Apex Labs with Miniknog guards and Glitch Castles with guards outside will warn you, but only the ones outside the two entrances. If any of the NPCs with weapons see you actually inside the place, they will attack on sight.
-Avian pirate ships in the sky are neutral unless you attack one of them, and then any nearby pirates with a line-of-sight will agro on you as well. FOREVER.
-Avian temples and the high tech pyramids have NPCs that will all attack you on sight.
-Bandit camps, where they're all dressed in black will all attack you on sight.
-USCM facilities are all hostile. The robots, soldiers, and prisoners will attack you on sight, aside from the boxy robot with the happy face and the little floor cleaner bot, who will only agro after being hit.
-Sewers have hostile po monsters, the flies and spiders will damage you but they don't actively go for you. (At least I don't think they're goin for me.)
-Glitch minicastles have just 1 hostile king inside while the wizard in the wizard tower is neutral.
-Eyeball knight things in the eyeball biomes are hostile.

*If you like to use guns, it IS possible that a shot went long and hit a neutral NPC down the path and agro'd him because all of the notable structures are placed on a very even and long stretch of land.

    WRONG.

You either wait for them to de-aggro (this takes a while) or beam up and down to "reset" the AI.

    I love the avian airships.

"Don't let me catch you taking anything" - Guy who just watched me empty out every crate/chest in the vicinity while helping myself to a selection of furniture and decorations.

Didn't work for me. I agro'd a group and beamed up before coming back. They were waiting for me, so I had to kill them.

This has worked for me and others. You either did not wait long enough or did something wrong. Or it could be a bug.

I love going to a village and bring asked 'can I sell you something' to which I say 'yes and I will pay you using the pixels I just took from your storage box'. Haha. #youaintseenmeright

Some NPCs de-agro, others stay agro until you kill them.

    That's strange. I suppose I'm just lucky.

well most town guards i've noticed will reset after a while, pirates tend not to, your own guards do, but if you attack a civilian the civilian seems to be flagged to be hostile (scared) of you, which triggers guards to attack.

The whole "don't let me catch you stealing anything" line is just begging for some kind of stealth system or invisibility tech.

I have been using a top secret method called "open your chest and take your stuff right in front of you"... lol. Seriously though, you are right... once they develop this aspect of the game, some type of "stealing" system will be cool.

I dunno, there's always the Elder Scrolls games where accidentally clicking on a rusty teacup is punishable by summary execution.
