Hologram "Double"

So here is an idea for an item, which you either hold, or is equipped in another slot. When you either click with it in your hand, or use a certain hot key when it is equipped in another slot, it will activate.

When it is activate, your actual self becomes 100% transparent (invisible), and your double becomes 0% transparent (fully visible). You then control your double, and can move anywhere you want with them, making it look like your moving with your actual self. You can even hold and use items, but although the animation will appear they will have no actual affect.
All attacks will pass right through your double, and if an enemy or another player comes in contact with it, they will be frozen for 5 or seconds and take a small amount of damage, which is the only affect your double can have (that intense light hurts, you know?). You can always delete your holographic double by using the item again, thus becoming your actual self again. Enemies will try to attack your double, and thus might walk into, and all enemies (except maybe bosses, NPCs, or some special enemies), will keep on thinking that your double is you, even after being attacked by your double walking into them.

There is one drawback though. It doesn't last forever. Remember what I said about your actual self becoming 100% transparent? Well this degrades over time, so that every 3 seconds, 1% transparency is lost from your actual self, and gained in the double, so that after a minute, your actual self will be 20% visible, and your double will be 20% transparent. After you have reached 50%, monsters will start ignoring your double, and attacking your self again, and at 0% you automatically stop using the item.

Do you like the idea? Please give feedback, and tell me how to make it better!

Idea is nice - might be fun!

But I will add a max reach oh hologram. Why? Because, when entering dungeon/tample/ruins/hostile base, players might to make wild run - to activate all traps, see and injure enemies.

  3. Reminds me of the hologram ability from Halo: Reach and Halo 4.
I like the idea. Though, for it to be successfully integrated without being considered overpowered, I would think that the hologram couldn't last for more than 20-30 seconds. Also, there should be a range limit for how far the hologram can go from your actual self, so you can't just run off with the hologram and explore without having to worry about dying.

Perhaps you could simply counter it by using an EMP grenade? In PvP I mean. And some enemies could be able to do it as well.

I think he wasn't meant about multiplayer games.

We can't expect, that monsters lurking in some caves will use EMP granades ;)

  6. Well, you would obviously realize it was a hologram when your bullets don't make contact. But, if there were EMP Systems, it would make sense for it take out the hologram.

Well, not all monsters will be cave-men. From what I understand there will be advanced enemies as well - space bandits for example. So why not EMP grenades or some other tech-disabling weaponry? Especially with all the weapon possibilities that were mentioned, I expect something of that sort. How else will they make all those random weapons really unique if not by giving them special effects?

    Wise words!

But still, I think it might be overpowered - but if use some kind hard to find/craft battery for this, that might be really good thing.

  9. I don't know about grenades, but some enemy bases might have some sort of EMP or electronic jammer. Most likely the Apex bases.

you wouldn't be able to activate traps with the hologram.
That's what the fading is for. You can't actually do anything with the hologram, you just walk around and pretend. It only lasts 5 mins also, and only really works for the first few.

So now I think it's really fine idea! That would be fun to see it in game

Now come to think of it, this reminds me with the DECEPTION skill of Zero from Borderlands 2 a little.
Except you take direct control of the hologram.
But yeah, limited time and quality loss via distance (enemies will be able to tell that it's fake after a few seconds of interactivity, depending of life form intelligence of course)

you could have it so the hologram doesn't have to be controlled if you don't want it to be. It could be a getaway system so you leave behind a hologram to walk around and do regular things. If it gets attacked it might attack back, though fail at it, if it takes to much damage it might die, then disappear super quickly and you would lose invisibility.

    Edit: Thanks Yaxlat.
I didn't feel like making a new post.

Awesome idea. (I would've written out something similar, but FIRST I did a search for "hologram," because most awesome ideas have been suggested already.)

seems like an interesting idea, would be useful to scout out a potentially hostile region. I think to have it so that certain (but not all) attacks should weakenthe hologram, and that your actual self would still take damage. (perhaps reduced damsge) and absorb bullets. This would make it interesting as a PvP device, especially if the stun is usefully long.

I'm reminded of the episode of Star Trek : TNG where Geordi pilots a remote probe, but to him it's like he's actually there, except he has access to abilities he doesn't have in reality. It would be cool to have a probe like that, as an alternative to an EVA suit, for hostile environments. Perhaps extensible, so you can adjust it for use in the atmosphere of a gas giant, or dive in the liquid ammonia seas of a frigid planetoid, or salvage aboard a derelict ship with no life support.
