Hidden Passageways and Camouflage Doors

I have been playing Scribblenauts Unlimited and it gave me an idea. First you would need a tunnel or passageway you could place and hide them with walls. Like with walls you could walk past them and you only see them in the background. They would go hand in hand with the camouflage doors. These doors would be like furniture and sometimes look like furniture. They way they would work is you interact with the doors like you would a switch and it would send you along the passageway and out to the door on the other end, no need to walk or navigant. If not hooked up to a passageway then the door would be used as decoration.

What the passageways look like doesn't matter butt the doors could look like a number of things. Some could look like normal elevator doors as the passageways could take you both horizontal and vertical and they could be used as elevators without having the hassle of them intersecting the other floors. Othes could be more discreet or cliche like a bookcase, phone booth, or a sarcophagus. There could even be a door that a painting or tapestry could be placed over to hide it.

What do you think? Any ideas on how this could be better or for more door designs?

In Terraria there were what was called Wired blocks. When they are powered they change between a foreground and a background block. One could build what looked like a wall or a floor, but with a switch would open up.

That said a 'teleport' style hidden door could be interesting.
What looks like a bookcase could have and interaction. it swings open and the Character is seen stepping inside, the camera shifts to the new location and the Character steps out. Now mind you if there is anything like a on-planet teleport system made then this would be very easy to implement.

I think this would be cool but there's the worry that if the hidden part is too far down someone is going to dig into it and if it's too close to the surface they'll be able to see the light and dig into it anyway, that said I do love some hidden passageways/bases and I hope this gets into the game.

That's the thing about 2D side scrollers and hidden rooms. I had that problem with the active stone blocks in Terraria. If you build the room just far enough down they can't see the light, and from what I can tell Starbound has an improved lighting systems so you don't need as many blocks. If there are mine shafts or hellvators on eather side but still far enough away then other players aren't as likely to dig into it.

this is really nice maybe when you are in the walls you don't see them.

I think this idea could work with active/inactive blocks! If there we switches that were camouflaged (i.e. a tree-branch, rock, bookshelf, light fixture) then they could be activated and basically make otherwise 'normal' looking blocks disappear to make a tunnel. Ideally the lights are attached to the same switch so if you 'close the door' the lights go off and it's completely hidden underground. This would be AWESOME in PvP, you could hide underground and no one could see your base!

I need this, my Batcave can't be out in the open!!!!

    I Don't Think So
Hidden Doors Would Be Possible, But Not "Hiding" Passages With Blocks Infront Of The Player. Tiy Has Stated That Blocks That Block Foreground View Are a Big No-No.

Someone else already made a thread about pistons acting like the active/inactive blocks but that is different from my idea. Still I would like to see those as well in the game.
I think you misunderstood me. The passages would be pipes hidden behind the walls. This has nothing to do with foreground blocks. The pipes are only there to keep the doors from being over powered as it will warp you from one to another. If you think back to pumps from Terraria. You would connect a inlet and outlet pump with wire and it would send water or lava from one to the other. This is more or less the same, only players instead of liquid.

I support this, and I need this along with a bunch of nice traps to make the life of any wannabe home invader a pain.

Still, It Sounds OP, As You Could Theoretically Make A Base, And If You Are Playing CTF, You Could Make a Base with the flag they cannot find at all, while you can just die lots to gain their flag.

Well even without this idea, ctf will still be one heck of a challenge. This game is a super 2-D sandbox, whos to say the other team won't just dig down as far as they can and hide the flag in a secret cave or make some sort or sky base and destroy all ways up to it? The only way to make ctf challenging but also keep it from being too much of a pain in the bacon, would be to have limits as to how far the flag can be placed from a designated starting point. That way the enemy will not know where you put it, but they will know how far they have to look to find it and the defenders can plan their defense from that.

This is just what we need. Hmmm, what else can we add thats camo related?

What about armor that when you stand still for a few seconds, it changes its colors to blend in with its surroundings?
Obviously players would still probably be able to spot you, but creatures attacking you wouldn't.
