I am not the patient type, but I want a finished product.

given the as long as we need approach i hope it doesnt end up like arena nets guildwars 2 fiasco they kept saying ready when its ready and when they claimed it was ready crippling bugs that held the game back for 3 months i stayed on board because i dont just abandon games from devs i like

The devs are sustaining a good pace and at a right, expected quality and standard we'd like to see. Let them have every last second for what they're worth, we need a finished product but then again, we want it done well. I'm a man of high expectations, what can I say?

What crippling bugs? The game was quite playable at the start, the only really major bug was that the marketplace was overloaded, and that was fixed pretty quickly. And that didn't effect the actual gameplay.

If the devs were trying to hide incomplete and buggy parts of the game then why would they show the combat in it's current, incomplete iteration, along with the various bugs we saw too.
Also Skyrim had more than a few hiccups. The savegame bloat problem which completely wrecked peoples saves and forced them to start over was quite a big deal.

Do me a favor and quote where I said I want the game to come out right now. Spoiler : You can't, because I never said nor do I want that.
I'm just not being a child like the vast majority of this forum who seem to think the game will be perfect if the devs have a few more months on it.
We could easily have the game be updated via patches whilst we still get to play.
What I'd like is for the game to come out when it's finished but not completely polished. For example when the combat is completed, and any other important aspects of the game that may not be done yet.

The only ones bitching are the people who don't want the game released bitching at the people who do.

Seriously. You wonder why people actively try to avoid this place and want to talk about the game elsewhere, can you not see how yous act?
I guess yous are completely oblivious to it.

Yeah, I agree with the OP, A completed game is nice, the Devs should take as much time as they need to assure that starbound doesnt have bugs...

I hope they wont rush starbound like Mojang does with minecraft updates...

  7. This is an interesting point. Certainly merely having more time to handle something does not equal that it will be better. However, the developers are indeed working and making improvements, as we can observe whenever they share some progress, either by written info, pictures or videos. I trust their judgement to release Starbound whenever they think is ready. I, for once, would not like to acquire an incomplete product, even if it's going to be updated later. The first impact people have with things and other individuals is a big deal, it counts a lot, both consciously and subconsciously, so I believe this is being taken into consideration in terms of finding a release date - They'd just rather have something they're more confident about in order to cause a better impact on the audience, even if it takes months.

    Finished?

So you don't want it when it's finished.

I'd find okay if they will release the game with some aspects still w.i.p, but it would be better if the basic and important aspects of the game will be working like the devs want them to be.

And I'm not thinking that taking more time will make the game perfect, but less "amateurish" or released-for-the-sake-of-it. I wonder who is really the child here.

I have no opinion on this matter. I will wait patiently but will buy the game in an unfinished state. I honestly could care less.

So you are basically arguing for a release of the game in a state that you yourself describe as incomplete and buggy?

  12. I did not say that nor the opposite anywhere. :)

Yup, of course. But it's important to make sure the difference is plain between having a complete game with future patches to expand it (which is a good thing) versus an incomplete game with patches to bring it up to date (which is not so good). At least that's my opinion. I just hope that whenever Starbound is released, it is a solid and worthywhile product.

I'm not agreeing with you. You said that you don't mind if important aspects won't be polished. I said that I would prefer them polished, while secondary ones can be incomplete.

In the first part I was pointing out that your "finished" definition is quite loose.

  14. Chamber

    Chamber Astral Cartographer

No? Didn't I just outright state I'd like the game to come out when the combat and whatever bugs we've seen have been fixed in my previous post?

Apparently you misread then. I said important aspects should be polished, not the other way around.

  15. todayisok

    todayisok Subatomic Cosmonaut

Well the way you wrote it sounded like if any other important aspect of the game but combat were not done yet you'd be okay with it.

I mean, the "any other important aspects of the game that may not be done yet" part was what threw me off.

If you are referring to your reply to toadyisok, it was not posted at the time i was writing my reply. And I have a hard time seeing why you are making such a big deal out of it, it will get released when it's done, nothing much too it.

    And in regards to
"Seriously. You wonder why people actively try to avoid this place and want to talk about the game elsewhere, can you not see how yous act?
I guess yous are completely oblivious to it."
Ye gods how horrifying to have people actually argue with you when you when there is a difference of opinions. So much better to be somewhere where noone thinks anything of anything, like a .txt file.

  17. Two things to keep in mind:
    1. Don't forget that while the people you are criticizing are not experts in marketing and the specific development status of Starbound, neither are you.
    2. I respect your assertion that everyone is entitled to their opinions; right, they are. Unfortunately, you're not expressing opinions, you claim to be providing facts. They are not facts, they are your opinions. Mind that while you berate others for harping on other people's opinions, and telling them they are wrong, you are doing exactly that.

I agree with Chamber in the way that the game could be released as a beta for those who are impatient, as a beta that would mean a lot of things are being left out for the consideration of those things needing to be completed and polished for a later period of time.

That is my view on the subject at the moment.

I agree that the game looks far from complete in it's sense, but that does not mean we can't have a beta release for the game. In my personal opinion - a beta release would not change anything other than let people play the game at a early stage where the game is not completely finished.

  20. While I don't exactly disagree with your statement, I feel as if the developers really want to release Starbound as something whole, and finished.
