While I suspect our reasonings are different, it sounds like we're in the same camp when it comes to what sorts of pics we want out of our friends, and what sort of info.
Specifically, in that both of us would rather see cute cats or puppies over people discussing their relationships.

One man's pain is another man's pleasure, they say. It works the other way around too.
Jokes, however good-willed they might have been meant, can be taken way differently by various people dependent on their current mindset. Especially if they're jokes about something that has had personal influence on them.
It's not that there is no space for jokes! We can't live a life all without humour. Man, that would be a bleak and boring existence indeed. It's just that some jokes should not be made at certain times.
