Help with starting planet

I use the same computer as my brother, so we share the same "universe" in-game. Basically when one of us does something, the other one also has to live with whatever the other one has done. Which is fine and pretty cool when we cooperate. But, with the new update I realized something that is REALLY ruining my experience, that is, we share the same starting system and the same starting planet. My brother destroyed the vegetation and didn't reforest. I'm stuck on this sucky planet with little minerals FOREVER. It's not fair for my brother that I ask him to give part of his stuff to me so I can advance. It's too problematic and dosen't need to happen.

If someone has already post something like this, I'm sorry, ignore this and please lead me to the thread.

You should suck it up and ask him for the minerals, or have him help you by visiting other planets to get them. Having everything reseed itself into the world by itself is ruining the entire point of this game.

It's possible to change the seed of the world by deleting and replacing it. You both would just have to keep an updated copy of your file and replace it when you play. This is probably the WORLD file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Starbound\giraffe_storage\universe. You would not be part of the same game, however, as you would both be holding on to your own universe.

I already solve it, with my bro. But thanks for the information, but it's more fun for us the way it is. :)

This however is an issue I could see cropping up a bunch. There should be a way to select a different starting location when launching a server... or a single player game (but still on the same seed). Perhaps this will come later. It's always best to keep the same seed that is in the base game though... as community members like to share coords for planets, which become invalid if you change your own seed.

Unsure, but the way it was said is that the single planet you start all your characters on now is just temporary. In the future, not confirmed, it will go back to what it was; at least when starting a new character. That is with each character you will end up on a different planet, but same biome. After all why go to the effort to have many those beginner planets if was not planned to make it do so in the future. Plus there are two paths not yet in the game, so there seems to be a bit of work ahead of them; once they sort out the steam problems and some things people have been mentioning...

I would think even on the starter planet it would be difficult to rid the planet of all resources, besides trees, with only 2 characters. This is where mining comes in. At least for the ores...

Always room for an underground forest biome, eh?

When I start a new character, I generally do it because I'm tired of the status quo. So you can Imagine how upset I was when i went to start a new character and end up on the same planet I had my base and farms from my previous character. I don't mind the other characters being somewhere in the persistent universe, but for everyone to start in the same place is no fun. Other than that I am loving the features of this new patch. Here's hoping they do a hotfix on that one issue so we don't have to wait another year to get the next stable update.

It was only the trees anyway, so I had to pospone all the misions that needed a crafting table or wood until I could leave the planet. While it made it easier to get directly to the planet core, my brother dug paths everywhere to the point where the spawn point was in a hole and the high gravity made me do some careful navigation. Also torch recycling was pretty annoying.

@Viroqu Ah... yeah trees are difficult to come by, but did he strip the mineshaft of resources completely as well. There should be one usually on the starter planet. Just a thought for something to check. There may not be wood, but there is those planks you make from wood all over the place and even in the background. It is a dungeon of sorts. That is actually where I ended up getting most my materials for a few things that I didn't have to dig up.

Can only hope eventually they switch it to the way it was, and hoping other things as well. Awaiting certain other paths of progression...:)
