Listen, folks. I love Starbound and I'm happy to see that it might go to E3, but it seems that some of you folks are taking this just a bit too seriously. The contest to "crash E3" is just that - a contest. Meant for fun and to help one indie game get the chance to go to E3, which I think is fantastic. But, that does NOT give you the right to start bashing those who get in your way and "show that pompous other game who's boss". Some of you seem to be treating this as a deathmatch, and you're not just being competitive. Some of you are crossing that line to mean-spirited territory.

What if Starbound were not to win? What would happen? Yeah, they might not go to E3, but dear Gods folks, one million dollars have been raised, and Starbound has a huge community. It isn't going to suffer, and the other game does not want to make us suffer. It just wants to win the contest, as we do. But the contest is a game. There's nothing to be lost, and the game was put in place to aid indie games, not to start wars between separate communities. Folks - simmer down.

We don't have anything to lose if Starbound doesn't go to E3. On the other hand, we do have something to lose if we attain victory through shallow means. You represent the community - be humble, be appreciative, and be honest.

  2. If the people behind the contest don't care enough about it to ensure its integrity, which they have basically admitted, then we don't want to win it for Starbound. Better to steer clear of the whole mess. "Got to E3 via shady contest with all kinds of gaming and abuse going on." isn't something I want to see attached to Chucklefish.

What are these people expecting to do at E3 anyway? Are they trying to cut a deal with a publisher? Will they have a spot for a presentation or just a booth? It is rather unclear on the contest page.

For the most part, I can't really tell if most of the indie crowd is actually SUITABLE for being at E3 given the nature of their games.

Hey guys calm down a bit it's just a contest, there's no need to get heated

I hope they just walk up on stage while randy pitchford is doing his speech on ACM and go "I'ma let you finish but starbound / other game is one of the best games ever made"

    I'd pay to see that.

  8. What gaming and abuse? I've seen none. :wut: Please provide evidence if you're going to accuse people of such.
The Youtuber who nominated Saibot has a massive amount of followers. He wants himself and Saibot's devs to go to E3. He's campaigning for it, and doing very well. There's nothing else going on there.
The people behind the contest are absolutely lovely, and their intentions are just to get more indie developers to E3. They've got no cause to be shady here.

I'm really really really sick of people accusing the contest runners and other participants of cheating.

    <3 Exactly this.

  9. Seems a little shady. ;) But he raises a fair point. What exactly is being won here anyway? Just a trip to E3 to look about isn't much good for an indie project. It'd be more like a vacation for the devs. E3 isn't known for being a great place for indies to get exposure. The whole thing just feels shady to me. This is some other indie game studio with extra passes, not a booth or presentation slot to give away. In short, unless Chucklefish was trying to sell the game to a publisher, the trip would just be a cool trip for some team members. Which is nice, but nothing to get worked up about given how much we've already contributed.

The guy nominating the studio is an opportunist using his own personal popularity to get himself to E3. His own posting encouraging his followers to help him made virtually no mention of the game, the studio, or anything other than dribbling on about how it's his greatest wish in life to go to E3. The guy ADMITS his motivations are primarily personal, and that he picked the title basically arbitrarily. And the people running the contest are okay with that? Can't get behind that. Won't get behind that. If they were serious about supporting indies, they'd remove the benefit to the person doing the nominating and keep the focus on which game merits the most support from its fans. The flaws in this contest system are readily apparent, and that's why no one should get worked up over whether some scammers are winning.

There are people saying that there are participants cheating on both sides, I can agree to that. We even have people posting on here that we should be getting hackers and start auto-ing accounts... But for the most part, we're not saying that he's cheating. 3: The overall notion in regards to said Youtuber was, based on his primary accounts, interested in getting himself to E3, and having to choose a random Indie game that'll let him do that.

I'd like to say more on this, but can only back my statements 50% certainty based on the entire context of the Facebook update that this information was retrieved from; he's posted several videos regarding the subject in the recent days, but due to language barrier, I can't determine whether he goes in-depth about the nomination and his reasons to supporting Saibot (aside for playing the game and it was an Amnesia-esque horror), or if it is a repeat of his Facebook announcement.

I am all for supporting Indie developers and the contest allowing 40 people in total, of all of those 10 groups that get the highest support, to present their works at E3, and would be glad for Saibot to show off their titles as well. What's frustrating is the people that use the system to their own benefit, without having much benevolent motives to begin with.

What's going on with all this drama anyway? Something about the E3 contest and TotalBiscuit?

When he made a video about the Indies Crash E3, he didn't even talk about "Doorways" or "Saibot Studios", he only said that he nominated them and 90% of the video was about that going to E3 was his dream and telling his fans to vote him, he didn't even tell them why the game is good or why the should vote it, he told them "vote for me so I can go to E3, it's my dream" the whole video

It would be really great if pewdiepie makes a video showing how awesome Starbound is and why people should vote for it, I honestly think Chucklefish deserves this they have been making this game for over a year and still continue making it even more cool, anyways if we don't win this challenge Starbound will continue being awesome even if they don't go to E3 :D

  13. It wouldn't just be a cool trip though! I mean, it'd definitely be a cool trip, but it'd be a great place to network with other game industry folk, and if we go we plan to bring a laptop to let people play a little bit of Starbound. :)

I get that he's doing it for himself, but...meh, that doesn't really bother me! In the end, Saibot would still get to go to E3 and show off their game. :)
