Help! Main Character is gone after hotfix or update that came out an hour or so ago

I know they were doing character wipes with the latest update (furious kioala) but the hot fix that came about an hour or so ago just wiped my new character that i created after the big update hit on sunday. Was playing about and hour or so before the fix i saved and quit like normal came back to my computer an hour or so later noticed there was an update, restarted my game and my main character is gone. I have another character and that one is just fine. Did this happen to anyone else? I am on a mac by the way.

 

I was playing 30 minutes ago and my character was fine. Are you 100% sure that you updated your game? Because you know how Steam is...

It may also be a problem with the sync between you and the steam cloud

 

I always backup saves before updating. But it did not happen to me

 

I always back up my files too. Its weird i play starbound at to places. At home and at work when i'm on lunch or not busy (lucky i have a job that lets me do that) on two separate computers so i copy my player and universe files (via drop box or flash drive or whatever). its just weird before i left my desk i quit my game and i know for a fact that there was a steam client update for mac so i did it. came back an hour or so later and started my game back up and thats when the main character was gone. I guy i work with also plays starbound and said there was an update, i checked mine and it did update. however, i wiped local contentand re-installed transfered my files and still nothing my main character was gone. When i got home from work did the update for starbound but didnt transfer the player files. started the game up my main character was there which is awesome because to be honest was very annoyed. i didnt play much today so progress etc wasnt that important. however, i did transfer the same file that didnt work before and its works fine so i'm good. One thing to note though my mac at work is running os x 10.9 but my mac at home is 10.8 and i didnt do the steam update.
