The first time I've heard about Starbound was when it was still in development. I was playing Terraria back then and when I heard that there was this game that was suppose to be its successor, I checked it out and fell in love with the sprites and all that. To me, Starbound was this cool space themed Terraria (before the updates) that had more exploration and randomness. I remember really wanting that statue of myself in-game back when they were still looking for backers. When it finally came out in early access, I wanted to wait for more content, and after sitting in my wishlist since December of 2013, I finally have it in my library. I haven't played Terraria for a while so I'm starting kind of blind with games like these again. What made me keep playing Terraria was the community, they kept me laughing and we worked together to create stuff, and that made me spend nearly 400 hours on the game. When I first opened the main menu of Starbound, I fell in love with the main menu music. I spent about 30 mins on the character creation alone, only to delete my character again because I didn't like my hair. I hope to find that same spark of creativity and those welcoming arms of random people in Starbound too. Something about me: I am a 20 years old college student (turning 21 this June 4) who just shifted programs, from Architecture to English, because I couldn't keep up with the stress of thinking up new, innovative ideas for projects. After 3 years of not being good enough in Architecture, I became fascinated with the world of Language and Literature and thought that it would be a nice idea to see art in a different angle, to look at it in another perspective (and to improve on my other languages, especially English). Even though I'm pretty much done with Architecture, I still keep getting new ideas related to it, thinking I should have done this and that to my previous projects. Instead of regretting what I did not do, I thought I would do it on another canvas, one where people can experience other people's work, and since I'm looking for something new, I thought of finally getting Starbound. I hope to experience the same joy I experienced that made me keep playing Terraria with a smile in Starbound, and so far, just from that music in the main menu screen, I feel good about it already. See you guys around!
Welcome welcome! Been playing a lot of Terraria too and loved the Starbound sprites as well. Aaand I feel you with your character creation and hair problem. Got it like that all the time as well Loved the music very much too and hey, I'm a 20 years old college student as well! YOU ARE MY NEW SOULMATE. Well... Probably not, but nice to meet you anyway
Greetings! Welcome to the Starbound forums! First off, I started with Terraria too, and then heard about this Starbound and wondered if they would be similar. SOMEWHAT, but not really. I immediately fell in love with the game, and after learning the ins-and-outs of it all, they're very hard to compare, but a little similar. I get the music stuck in my head all the time. AAANNNNDDD The hair can be strange, but luckily if you look in the mods section, many users have made tons of awesome mods! All including hundreds of hairstyles, different facial modifications, and even more races! Definitely worth checking out. See ya in the forums!
Welcome! Sorry I'm late, had a power outage. I can't not listen to it for an hour before I start playing. Well, maybe not an hour. Maybe two!
haha, that's pretty cool! I can't remember what I got first, but I've played a whole ton of Terraria AND Starbound.
Welcome to the forums! It's always refreshing to see someone talk about Terraria AND Starbound in the sam post without it being negative!
Is that really a problem here? I always thought those 2 games kind of complemented each other. I think.
I think so two, but when both are mentioned at the same time it is usually something like "Chucklefish stole XYZ from Terraria" or "this was way better in Terraria", or even the other way round "this is way better than Terraria, that game sucks". Sad but true.
Hi and welcome! You're really neat! And I noticed you're looking for people/servers to play with; if you want to play with me, I'd love to! ! But no worries either way; hakuna matata ^w^ (and I can set up the server, no worries) (oh and you can PM in response if you want ofc, so as to not hijack your thread! ^^' )
I would love to play with you! It's just that I just found out that distance lag is a thing and most players/servers I encounter are either set up in Europe/America, and I'm in Asia. Australia is my only hope. I can try though.
