Heat death of the universe

The devs mentioned something about a planet-wide event, and possibly a universe-wide event in the future, which got me to thinking: does that mean we have a set time limit to explore the galaxy until the universe undergoes a heat death? Or, perhaps we must construct a preservation planet/chamber/ship in order to survive after the heat death? Perhaps the universe will not end with a heat death, but rather a hard-to-stop galactic overmind generated at the beginning of the game, and the players will have a set time to kill that thing before he destroys/converts/ingests the entire universe? Personally I hate a time limit on a sandbox game, but what do you think?

 

A "time limit" would like take away the whole sandbox portion of the game, lol..

How did you take "planet-wide event" and turn it into "Time Limit/impending doom"? I don't even what is this?

Well, I wouldn't say trolling, but its possible for a universe-wide event to occur, therefore, it is possible for an end-game boss to be accessible since the beginning of the game, kinda like chrono-trigger.

 

Universe wide event... You'd need a freaking massive opposition to invade your whole universe if that's the case.
Planet wide however seems much more practical, asteroid incoming perhaps? You'd had to destroy it
before it impacts with your dear planet, or evacuate if its too large.

I would think it would be something along those lines. Like meteor storms/showers.

 

I'd imagine certain suits or "armors" would be needed to get on specific planets or moons. Some planets would be very hot where as others would be unimagineably cold.

 

I would kind of like to see something similar to the game SPAZ(Space Pirates and Zombies) towards the end of the game, a zombie infestation has taken over alot of star systems and both factions in the game are friendly towards you so that you can beat em back.

 

Zergs, it's like a zombie infestation but on a universal scale.

There will be no time limit universally...
Perhaps there will be some planet-wide time limits, in the form of events that render that planet useless for anything, so no actual time limits.

 

I'm going to guess that there won't be time limits. That would kind of put you in a mad dash, which isn't natural for many sandbox games. I believe the planet/universe wide events will be something like hostile aliens are invading and you have to beat them, or maybe an asteroid is going to hit.

 

I agree I hate time limits in sandbox games that ends the whole game. It would definitely make the game less fun and appealing.
