Hello! Today I attempted to set up a starboard server for me(Mac) and my friend(PC). I started off with the nightly builds, did everything the way the help page said got in game and all. When my friend tried to join though it gave an error. I gathered that if you don't set a password and all, your friend should only have to enter the IP address. He tried multiple times to connect and i confirmed he had the correct IP. Knowing me and my relative inexperience with this sort of stuff, I might just be missing something. Or could it have to do with the fact that we're a different OS? If your willing to help but need more specific info, just reply asking what you need.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Multiplayer in Starbound is not OS dependant, so you can host the server on Linux, and play with a MAC and Windows without problem.
For your incident, you need to be more specific : what is the error exactly ?
Have you made a redirection of the ports in your router ? If yes, maybe you need to open an exception in your firewall (if any).

Alright, so like I said I'm inexperienced with networking and all. After your response I decided to look up port forwarding (I didn't know this was an essential part of setting up a server). I got all that set up and it's working fine now. So thanks for taking the time to respond and have a nice day!
