The rather large fps drop when in any location with a large amount of sprites? Or is this just my old computer ?

Not you and not related to computer hardware.

Probably the current lack of optimization.

I have a similar problem, often when I first visit a place like the outpost. It seems to be npcs and creatures that affect my fps the most.

Use the experimental 64 bit launcher. I was having problems near larch entities til I started using that button to launch the game.

I have that problem too. Like Jonesy said, it's pretty much an optimization issue. Since we're still in somewhat early beta, the devs are more concerned with getting everything to work. Once all the features are programmed they will begin to work on making it run more smoothly.

well, If a fair amount of the next update is supposed to introduce citizens for yor colonies, they may want to have a hard look at that optimization before they release it.

other wise , my current prediction of a thousand "WTF lag! " threads will come true.

That may not be the case, unfortunately. From my understanding, optimization is one of the last things you do in a beta.

That doesn't mean that they couldn't do some slight optimization, just to make things more bearable on low-end PCs.
