Neat. ...wait, 'black holes and white holes are the same object'? Does that mean they're connected?? Maybe Starbounders could use Black Holes and White Holes as a way to: send presents at random to each other, get from one dimension to another (getting to destinations all through guess-work), have planets that were sucked into black holes appear out of nowhere, or even take / give energy (as in using m.o.ms) in order to accomplish tasks. Or they can make a mistake by getting too close and disappear into an endless black hole and suffer an eternity of "You have been Slain".
I love this idea its like you go in the universe and harness the energy in planets or in your world and use it to make bombs or weapons and etc.
Hm... White Matter... I should probably start thinking about some ideas for that. Thanks for the information
It's not really like that.... A white hole is simply the reverse of a black hole, or a black hole that repels matter instead of attracting it. It has no relation to dark matter at all. Dark matter is just a field inside of the nucleus of an atom which makes up around 90% of the mass of the atom, if I recall correctly. (Only slightly) More comprehensive explanation of the white hole now. They are a hypothesis which would provide an explanation to the Einstein Field Equations [Wikipedia], basically solving the massive problem of the fact that black holes have infinite gravity at the centre of themselves (Or a gravitational singularity. {Note: A 'singularity' is simply an area of science that we do not yet understand.} This shows that blacks holes have no volume, but mass. Have I mentioned that the neutrons and protons of an atom are composed of quarks which also have mass, but no volume? Electrons are also a type of quark.) Recent speculations involve the white hole being involved in the creation of new universes, where the white hole is just a big bang of all the matter that reaches the centre of the black hole. It's mostly hypothesis and speculation at the moment, nothing tested.
EDIT: Yeah, they're connected. See above. Also, going into the black hole would destroy anything beyond any hope of recovery. Wait, I tried to edit my post and it made a new one? Wut?
Thanks for the more in depth explanation. I think I understood that, but I'm not sure. Science was never my forte. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a White Hole shoots out whatever is sucked in by a Black Hole. I'm not really sticking to the laws of science very much, hence the whole Red Matter and Dark Matter. I took the liberty of looking up Dark Matter, and although I don't really understand much of what Wikipedia was saying, I think it said Dark Matter didn't actually come from Black Holes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. However, because I'm allowed to take liberties with the whole science aspect, and because in my idea Dark Matter comes from Black Holes, it would kinda make sense if White Matter came from White Holes, because they're pretty much opposites. Just something that occurred to me when you posted your explanation. Oh, and there's something wrong with the edit button. After 10 minutes, you can't edit your posts anymore, but Ordona's trying to get it fixed.
Not Quite: Basically, most/all galaxies seem to rotate faster than should be possible with the amount of mass that we can see (i.e. the mass of the stars inside the galaxy). The rotational speeds are consistent with having a relatively large amount of non-visible matter (thus, "dark" matter). There are, of course, a few other things that indicate the presence of dark matter, but I'm not very familiar with them.
Huh. I might have missed that, but I saw a lecture by Lawrence Krauss where he explained it that way, and how 90% of the mass of matter is dark matter. It was either 'A universe from nothing' or one of his many debates with Richard Darwkins. 1: Yep, that's right. 2: Again, correct. Dark matter makes up 90% of the mass of observable matter (With the other 10% belonging to the quarks in the neutrons and protons), And it also seems to make up for missing mass in our observations of rotating Galaxies. AliceTheGorgon Made a post on it that I'm quoting.
Mother of god, I can already see it, people getting technology that can harness a black hole and then just joining a random server and shooting the gun at a random peons base and disconnecting. All those tears, delicious.
I'm not sure how to take that comment But there should be an option for whether or not it can go on servers/certain planets.
Kinda like how terraria was in the beginning: Join a server with loads-a-dynamite, throw the dynamite, wait till it blows up and then disconnect
Well, if Dark matter is at the edge of a black hole, a M.O.M. that powers down near it would fall into it, yes? So you'd want to replace its batteries every (other) time it comes back to avoid losing it. Perhaps M.O.M.s could work in pairs when out in space, and one could bring the other back when it runs out of power. The one that doesn't run out of power was using less power because it was not collecting materials.
That could work. Actually, that made me think of something. Because M.O.M.s work without player assistance, one of the biggest balancing issues was storage space. That was a problem because of the unlimited power provided by solar panels; with batteries, it would be fine to have a theoretically infinite storage space, because they would only harvest materials as long as their battery ran out. So, batteries would be the better power source around 100% of the time. Thanks for thinking of that
