In my many adventures i have found a dozen colors for dirt, half a dozen types of cobblestone, all of it taking the same name but using different slots. i was thinking maybe there is a way we can unify the blocks. for instance, all dirt is the same, maybe have a context menu that lets you select the color, from a list of discovered dirt types, or use a different naming convention, mainly for cobble. it all has the same name, descriptor, and icon image. so maybe have rough cobble, fine cobble, etc.
I feel like it would be cool if all the dirt stacked, and when you clicked on it, it had a fancy like overlay drop down window, like when you mouse over a color it moves to the front, if that makes any sense to you, and then when you select it you can put then you are holding it in your hand, either to move it, or if it's in your hotbar it is the default color you are placing.
it would be nice to have a more organized inventory but wouldent that make it kinda of unbalanced? because you would have access to large amounts of different blocks, the point of having an inventory with a max of 1k per block would be pointless if you can stack the same named blocks together. I think that inventory management should be a part of the game too. I don't know if that made sence, sorry i'm just playing devils advocate there. I actually think its a good idea but then there should also be a way to balance it somehow. maybe instead of having 1k stacks you could makit to 500?
This would only affect balance if it increased the maximum carrying capacity. If the suggestion was implemented while retaining that limit, no advantage would be gotten. In case of that overlay suggestion from above, a possible scenario would be having a stack of dirt (1000) with various colored sub-stacks of varying amount (399 red, 415 teal, 186 brown). If it is made sure that the sum of all those sub-stacks cannot exceed 1000, you have yourself a properly balanced feature.
That would be a a really complicated and fiddly way to go about it and it wouldn't have many benefits over the existing way! I like the OP's suggestion, where you have a stack of dirt and then you can choose to place it as red, teal, or brown if those are the types of dirt you've collected.
It would have one, namely that you don't waste multiple inventory slots if you pick up small amounts of each dirt type. But by all means I agree, I'd love to be able to just select the dirt color based on what you've already collected. I just figured this would be rejected for being too convenient.
it would be convenient, they could even use a function like ctrl+mousewheel for quick cycling. My biggest issue currently is i have 7 different, non-full stacks of cobble, i can't stack them to 1k, when placed all look the same. i want to see that cleaned up. also things like Pipes, there are 3 layouts for pipes that i have with the same name, it would be best used for that, and other things that are like that i imagine. or at the very least change the names (my other option) so you don't have 5 different stacks of "Pipes", have something like "pronged pipe", "short pipe", etc. and for dirt change the names so you have "pink dirt", "teal dirt", etc.
I don't care about dirt. Cobblestone and it's different blocks are what gets on my nerves. Would also like a way to filter what blocks I even want to pick up. Every time you dig it's an automatic chore having to clear your inventory of 5-6 other types of undesirable blocks.
yea, no kidding. that is a really good idea. it would be nice to have a loot filter like you find in a lot of the new MMOs.
