.... Am I the only one who mistakenly read this game's name as Half-Life? Still, it looks quite good, I'll probably be getting it.
Looks fun, turn base action games are crazy addictive. Will definitely check it out. On a side note, if I may. I believe the reason for the confusion with the whole starbound game and other games popping on the website named "playstarbound.com" is that its become confusing and upsetting, and perhaps enraging to alot of folks. Those that eagerly visit the site, look to get the whats whats about Starbound and its development. Only to see another game pop up. Nightly updates aside, the fast and furious updates/patches promised have gone unsung. In the mean time, a slew of new games are popping up under our beloved "playstarbound.com" page. This is very confusing to some. Perhaps a simple remedy would be to have a Chucklefish publisher site, aside the flagship site that is Starbound. While I love seeing new games being published and hyped by the Chucklefish team, I believe the issue is that they may simply not belong on the same page rightfully named "playstarbound.com". To put it bluntly , we want to see all Starbound all the time, on this site. My two cents on the matter. Thank you for reading, looking forward to Halfway also.
Sorry, I just have a more cut and dry way of looking at the matter. I'm not going to purchase anything else published by CF until they release the game that I have paid for. Some may call this sour grapes. But to me, this feels like I am being smart as a consumer. I wish the devs of Halfway all the best. Their game looks great. If Starbound's 1.0 release isn't a total debacle, I am sure I will pick up Halfway after that point. "All CF does is provide contacts and distribution and resources." I am completely aware that it isn't like Tiy and co. are flying around the world pouring man hours into games other than Starbound. This isn't about time as a resource, this is an issue of money as a resource. Typically, a publisher provides funding for projects that they are helping publish. I have asked the devs and mods about about whether or not CF provides any sort of funding to published titles on several different occasions and never received a direct answer. If CF DOES provide funding or monetary support to published games, it is not what I gave them money for. I paid for eight finished copies of Starbound. Which I have still yet to receive. I was explicitly told "The money from preorders will help get the game in my hands faster." That is why I funded. I did not know that money that was being given to them at that time would fuel a games publishing company start up. I gave money for Starbound. Not Halfway, not Risk of Rain. Starbound. As a customer, I would find spending money that Starbound earned from preorders or early access on OTHER GAMES highly unethical. Especially when last year, customers were led to believe that all Starbound needed was a last minute cash injection to get the beta and finished game out in 2013. http://i.imgur.com/ovbRPcb.jpg If CF DOES NOT provide funding to the devs of games which CF is publishing, it means that the devs of these other games are essentially giving 10% of their profits to CF for little more than name recognition and "advertising." As a consumer, I find this idea fairly unethical. So either way, I'm not really happy with CF's behavior on this matter. I'm not claiming I am right and everyone else is wrong. I am not attempting to flame bait or argue. Can I get a dev to comment on this? Or do I get warned / banned / comment deleted for voicing my opinion again?
I don't think this is the right thread to have this discussion. This is a thread about Halfway, not about Chucklefish nor about Starbound. But, for the record, I believe that Mollygos did confirm that CF's publishing deals with these other dev teams do not include funding. Thus, each of the indie devs may or may not have their own kickstarter / whatever to gain funding to work on their game. CF's publishing deal seems to be: "We don't ask for a big cut of your profits, because we don't front the money for your operation. We will help you make your release the best it can be by advertising and consulting and providing advice and help with platform ports, though." So, they do "less" than a traditional publisher, but they ask for less money in return. This allows them (except poor Busygos) to concentrate on Starbound as opposed to helping out the other dev teams. Also, for the record, none of this is our business. We are not investors to Chucklefish, we simply paid in advance for a game to be released later. We don't own their stock, they don't answer to us, and the only thing they owe us is a released game of unspecified quality. They want that game to be absolutely high quality, and not disappoint people with the final release. What they do with the money we gave them is their business, literally. Just like if you buy Assassin's Creed, you have no business asking Ubisoft what they did with your $60. And if you did, you wouldn't hear anything back, because they wouldn't answer it anyway. On topic, I like fallout 2, and I heard good things about XCOM, so I'll definitely be watching this one and seeing if my friends pick it up. It sounds and looks like it's very close to release (July 2014, heh, so this month), and that could be a really nice summer present.
Looks pretty hype. I'll have to pick it up when it releases. (also good to see mouth-breathers are still parroting "its playSTARBOUND dot com" like anyone cares)
Sorry I thought this was clear enough; Let me try again. This thread that we're in is for Halfway. You can take up your issues with Starbound, the Devs, or Chucklefish in general in private OR in the appropriate forum board in a civil discussion thread. Not here.
Also the next person that derails the thread to make this about Chucklefish is going to get at least a 3 day timeout.
Hrm, perhaps its time to close the thread then? People gonna vent anytime they see a new game posted.
No. Because we actually trust in people's ability to be adults and follow the rules after several warnings. It's not actually difficult, especially since I've already addressed how to discuss the "issue" via different avenues.
It isn't derailing if the thread is still on topic. Here's a handy dandy flow chart for you: Derailed thread: A: on topic post B: on topic post C: on topic post D off-topic post E: angry response to D see you in 3 days, anyway
Oh dear ! Yes this game is cool but By The great old ones, FINISH STARBOUND BEFORE MAKING OTHER GAMES !!! I think i have paid for a COMPLETE game, not a perpetual beta !
