HI GUYS! So I'm a nooblet to both this forum and Stardew Valley, and I seem to have made a classic noob mistake! I wanted to let everyone know so they don't do this too (it may have been just my game the once but better safe than sorry!) So I have this thing where i'm super OCD about organizing all of my items to proper locations on my farm. So when it comes to clothing items, all of the hats and boots I've gotten end up in a chest in the bedroom. That's where I screwed up. I had the first upgrade and I liked having a chest right next to it one space away from my bed.....BAD IDEA! I finally got enough for the final upgrade and the night robin was done I thought nothing of it and went to bed excited to see my new upgrade......well....apparently that chest (unlike EVERYTHING ELSE IN MY HOUSE) was too heavy for the game to move. I woke up that morning with a chest in the bed next to me..... I tried my hardest to get out of bed but I was stuck on the chest. my inventory was full of nice stuff I hadn't put away so I tossed all the day's worth of mining in the trash and pulled out everything in the box to see if i could just break it and be free even though I just lost an entire day's worth of work.....and I couldn't break the box.... None of my tools could break it. None. I'm so upset I was in year two I had my second upgrade I was almost married I had lots of friends and animals the greenhouse and two items left on the community center before it was done....and I was stuck in bed....with a chest......... TL;DR~Dont put a chest next to your bed before the final upgrade you'll get stuck and wont be able to break the box. Conversation starter~ What is your characters personality? OR do you even give them one aside from your own?
Hey loony welcome to the forums! To fix that problem it's actually kinda simple, but also a way you wouldn't normally think. People have had this problem and all you need to do is remove all the items from the chest then you can break the chest. My characters personality.. I'm not too totally sure to be honest with you. I have vague ideas but none set in stone, so i'll have to get back to you on that
welcome to the forums! enjoy your stay, we have cookies and pizza. pretty much what cjbeats said. it's ok though, a lot of us were a little confused about the chest thing. my farmer is rather excited, kind, and loves to explore as much as she loves to take naps
Thank you~ Sadly I tried that and it didn't work. I had an entire day's worth of stuff in my inventory that I tossed just so I can pick up all the stuff out of the chest and break it and I couldn't break the chest with any of the tools. It should have but it didn't. I don't think many people thin about the personality of their character. I may just be the weirdo that does that. I have a few characters with entirely different personalities and back stories.
Hmm that's really strange. I'm not sure then, that sucks. Well you live and learn, but that's a very crappy way to learn. Maybe try editing the code to delete the chest or something.
@MagicallyClueless I love cookies and naps ♡ @CjBeats I would if I hadn't gotten frustrated and in a fit of rage deleted the save....and had any idea how to code this game....which I intend to learn.
Oh damn, I wouldn't consider that a noob mistake. I don't think anybody, newbies or oldies would have predicted a bug like that That sucks so much though. You learned the very hard way not to place chests near the bed. Good thing I never keep chests near my bed.
They are girls here also (not me obviously, but for sure they are). ;-) You know that you can drop item's on the ground? Drag them not to the waste bin, but outside of inventory (to the playable area) and they will drop on the ground. Destroy chest, walk outside of the bed, set chest there and pick all stuff from the ground.
@CjBeats yeahhh I needed to start over anyways wasn't satisfied with my friendship levels (too much of a perfectionist want a super good score the first time grandpa showed up) @Minimanta I will never put a chest there againT^T @roburconqueror how about I change it to Hi Peoples! Also every time I try dropping something the game picks it right back up so I didn't think of that as an option I guess
That and every time I write it it makes me think of the Goonies even if I don't write it exactly like the quote.
Hey Loony if you still have your save file, there is a way for you to fix it. The game actually saves two files for a character, the first save being the day you're currently on (The day your house was upgraded) and the other save being a backup (A day before the finished upgrade) All you've got to do is access the folder and replace the new save with the backup. C://Users//Your Username//AppData//Roaming//StardewValley//Saves//Your Character's name underscore a bunch of numbers (AppData is a hidden folder you'll need to have it unhidden http://botcrawl.com/how-to-access-hidden-files-and-folders-on-microsoft-windows/ Just scroll down til you find How to access hidden files and folders on Microsoft Windows) Accessing the folder there should be four files the first two being charactername underscore then some numbers, the second save should have underscore old. You should just rename it and remove underscore old. Have it replace the current one, then bam, once you reload your file you'll be back a day before the upgrade.
@SimplyDoge I will totally keep that in mind next time but unfortunately I am deeply and got too frustrated and deleted it....unless I can Somehow get it after I've deleted the save in game...but I doubt it
I'm a sysadmin, and a common problem in offices is deleting files, if you use recuva, a software to retrieve deleted files, maybe you could find your file and restore it. Maybe not 100% sure, but better than nothing. It's from piriform, it's safer download from the developer. Good luck.
Ouch, sorry to hear that - two years worth of work is a lot to lose. :C Welcome to the forum though! Lots of friendly and helpful folks on here, we're always up to chatting about our favorite game. My character, hmmm. Probably a lot like me - quiet, keeps to herself, a classic introvert but still amiable when she needs to be.
Pretty sure the bed stays put, I don't think it lets you move it like other furniture. Would be nice if it did though.
Beds aren't mobile in unmodded games. They're linked to a 'save point' location, so moving them would mess with the game's ability to save the game every night. Getting into bed has to trigger the 'go to sleep?' message. Rather than repost the whole thing, my farmer's backstory is here: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/your-farmers-backstory.114359/#post-2933599
I don't know if this has been bugged in the Support forum, but it certainly deserves to be. Sorry to hear that happened to you, Loony.
