I'm an admin on a server and on Sunday it was hacked deleting the blocks on starting world. Is there a way to reset just one world or will we have to reset the whole server? Any help is appreciated.
I am not sure if this will work but: try deleting its coordinates from the directory. failing that you may have to just go with the whole universe.
This should work. Find the .world file in the universe folder corresponding to the world in question and delete it. The game will make a new one next time it attempts to load it.
Thanks it's been fixed. Although the owner did notice that they managed to get on even after they were banned could this be a bug or did the hackers do that. Also do you guys know any way someone could delete two peoples characters without ever being on their computers.
If you have the means to change your servers ip adress, that will stop em. Can't hack you if they can't find you.
it's a server that is open to the public and anyone can join if they don't hack or troll so we want to make it so that we can be easily found by people[DOUBLEPOST=1432076996][/DOUBLEPOST]But not trolled or hacked
I'm just going to say it'd be 10x easier keeping it whitelisted and maybe make an enjin page for your server to join and stuff. It's not hard to mask some ip bans by them changing ips I'm assuming that's what happend. Also there are mods here on the forum that give full admin privileges and work in multiplayer so it's safe to keep it like that unless you can completly keep it safe.
Then why not white list your server and have them sign up on your website to get server ip/pass? Would help with random people getting on and causing problems.
If the player files were corrupted in some fashion then the game will fail trying to load them and they will not show up in the character list. Check your starbound.log to see if that is what's happening, you might be able to restore one of the automatic backups if that's the case (the .bak files are backups Starbund makes automatically for you). Always back up your player folder before playing online. The server host should also be making regular backups of the universe folder as well. (Note that backups usually should be made while the game is not running for data integrity, otherwise you might get a copy of a save before the game finishes writing to it, which may be unreadable in the future if you ever try to restore it.) Pretty much this. Using a whitelist does not prevent you from getting people geniunely interested in being a part of the community nor does it prevent you from actually advertising your server. If you're bothered by griefers/hackers, using a whitelist is a fairly effective approach. I've honestly never understood those people who want to control access (keeping certain people out is controlling access) while not wanting to have accounts/passwords (which perform the very role of controlling access). You can't really have it both ways; either you can block certain people from getting on in the first place and avoid most of the aftermath of griefing events, or you can allow everyone in and deal with always trying to clean up afterwards if something bad does happen. It's up to you, there are pros and cons to both approaches and I've seen servers be successful (popular and sustainable) with both methods. It really depends on what kind of player base you want to cater to.
