They would probably make another account to complain about it after they were banned, causing more frustration, anger, etc.

Haven't you read the Monster Manual? Trolls can only be killed with fire.

Seriously though, I think Mollygos' point is that if people aren't jerks to newcomers in the first place, then they won't feel the need to complain. Banning them in any form just for minor rule infractions seems like being jerks to me. If someone is actually trolling, then a happy, heathy, helpful community will not be very good troll food. We all just have to be patient.

Hello there, molly! Well, to be honest, I totally ignored that something like this was going on. We are supposed to be a mature community and we should behave as such, I don't want to see this community thrown into chaos. So, as you said, we should all be more polite and respectful with other people. I will stop joking about Starbound's release date and mythical swords that are set in stone if necessary . New people should have an even better and warmer welcome than all of us had back in the day.

So dudes and dudettes, share the love! And don't forget to bring cookies for newbies!

Edit: I know that all of you guys love the devs, but being overdefensive is near to being agressive and that kind of behaviour doesn't help anyone.

Just to make sure, after politely anwsering a newb question, is it considered offensive or agressive to point out the fact that the anwser was actually sitting in front of them? Being kind and polite okay but I think you also have to direct people who ask already anwsered questions into the right direction, that direction being, learning how to find it by themselves too.
I got yelled at on the IRC after I said that the anwser to the question someone was asking could be found on the same page he found the IRC link pretty much in those same words. Was it actually that bad of a thing to say? And I did anwser to the question right before.

Eddit: Oh, and on the topic of troll sooner, troll only stay were they can find food. Dont feed them and they leave after a while. Of course when the community get to a certain size there will alway be people to feed them but hey, drawback of the internet.

Well, since it sorta makes the person feel dumb because they didn't see it, I'd say yes.

You know, technically, it is impossible to find any information by yourself using a forum, because every piece of content on the forum is posted by a member, moderator, admin, or developer. If they couldn't find previous postings because they just didn't look in the right places (even if it was on the same page), then it seems kinda mean to point out just how silly there are for not seeing the answer.

It's like when a teacher says, "c'mon, this stuff is EASY," and you're thinking, "I still don't get it! I must be stupid!"

Fun Tip: If you run into a troll, and there is no mod to help (which shouldn't happen), agree with everything they say about you. It pisses the hell out of them and it's hilarious.
But I have seen a LOT of bashing honestly. I'm beginning to notice that the community is getting a bit..."edgy".

Actually, I was talking not of the forum but of the playstarbound.com page were right next to IRC chat tab (okay, 4 tabs before it) stand a little tab called FAQ. There is no research involved, it's standing right there. Is it that bad to say that? I mean, hey, here is the anwser to your question, also you might want to take a look at this page too, it will probably anwser to a lot of your questions including this one. It should not be considered an offence to tell people that they can do a little bit of research. The offence is the be an ass about it.

Wait, hold up. FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions? I thought "Faqs" was just ebonics for "Facts"...

Its not really mean to show them where the answer is. I mean sure, if you're an ass about it then yeah its mean, but there's nothing wrong with pointing someone towards a source of information.

What I'm saying is that something like, "you know, you could have found the answer in the FAQs section, which is actually on the same page as the link to this chat," is actually kinda... well, it could be read the wrong way. You know how that is: you're just saying, "well, that dress isn't the most flattering on you..." and they respond like, "wtf you sayin' I'm fat?!" and it all goes downhill from there.

If people choose to take what you say and interpret it in the most insulting way possible, that is in no way your fault. Also comparing that situation to talking to a woman is like comparing tic-tac-toe to a rubix cube.
