Actually, this thread reminded me of an argument I got into about whether or not the Stepping on Legos meme was funny. Apparently someone out there really thinks Stepping on Legos is serious business and nobody should ever laugh at the pain Lego sufferers must endure. I actually asked the person if they really wanted to fight over it, and they did— for a while I even suspected it was a troll.

I mentioned this quite a while back when there was a thread bashing people for talking about another game they might buy as well. Making them all out to be traitors to Starbound because they might want to try a similar game out.

TThis place should be much friendlier than it is of course. IT is actually compared to most internet forums. We're all a brethren here because we're all in well before the game is released and all that.

The big problem is people wanting some sort of credit for being "old skool", or some nonsense. Like they want to be recognized for being here even EARLIER than the newbies. That's just some lame self-esteem problem some people have I guess. Instead we should be welcoming of new people because the more people that come here the larger the community, more people available to give ideas, possibly create future MODS, and simply give the team more incentive to make it the best they can.

 

Imho offensive posting is always bad. The older members should rather be supportive and polite to newer members. It can happen to everybody that he misses the most obvious information and just askes about something.

Not to mention that there could also be younger people among us who are new here and also need more guidiance or help then others. Giving someone a hand won't hurt anybody even if it's an information that has been discussed multiple times.

A good member is a friendly member and a friendly/supportive community can achieve vastly more and even be a place that everybody likes to visit.

 

I don't think that there has ever been a statement that I have agreed with more than this said statement...or something like that.

I don't really have the energy to read through this whole thread, but...
While it's not ok to get mad at newcomers, couldn't this problem be cut down a hefty bit by maybe adding a banner on the homepage directing them to the FAQ section?

 

This sadly is quite true. When I first joined I posted a thread asking a few questions, and I got ridiculed because they had all already been answered in previous threads that I, being new, had no idea about. After this I was quite turned away from the forums, now all I really do is just look around and never post anything.

 

I may make a new account just to mess with things, if only I wasn't so lazy.

 

Being on the Internet is like driving a car, you can't control what others do, only what you do, so you better focus on conducting yourself rather on reprimanding others, or you'll end up in a road rage seminar by judicial ruling.

You're missing the point. Yes, the rules say you should make use of the search bar before posting a thread, but they also say-- in big huge bold letters-- "Don't be a jerk." Just because someone forgot to use the search bar doesn't mean they deserve ridicule. That's...ridiculous.
