Relevant to what has been going on:

 

I'm a little curious, about how many reports have there been?

 

I disagree. I think it needed to be put out there.

I dunno, not gonna go count, but more than usual.

 

Well, as it's been said before, as the community grows, these sorts of negative occurrences become more likely to happen, since more and more different users keep joining us. It doesn't mean it's acceptable to act in such manner, though, and I believe it's quite positive to have this thread: sort of a reality check - bring people down from their high perches and, hopefully, have them calm down a bit. It will benefit everyone in the long run --> Us, as well as the developers.


Moreover, it's important to learn how to handle negative posts towards you so that you don't come out of it damaged - Depending on the level of 'aggression', you may try to converse with the person, ignore the post altogether, or even report it if necessary. Then you just move on.

On the other side of the line, people must also bear in mind how their messages may be perceived. What you don't consider an attack may be seen as one by the other individual. It's not 'cool' to diss on other people - It's cool to help other people. Don't you get a warmer feeling inside when you've done a good deed and someone appreciates your efforts, rather than trying to sound smart by demeaning someone, but deep inside knowing that what you did wasn't really the right thing to do? Just think things through, guys. It'll help out a lot. Whenever you come up with something, run it through the test, 'Is it really the right thing to do?' If the answer is yes, then go ahead. If not, then you may want to rethink your strategy.

Furthermore, what you may think holds no meaning, might in fact hold a great deal of it --> If the community starts getting a poor reputation due to people mini-trolling, that can easily spread, which means that people may be dissuaded from visting the community and, therefore, perhaps even lose interest in Starbound. Chucklefish is not only losing face, but also profit.


Starbound isn't only Chucklefish. Starbound is all of us.


PS: I don't care if I'm perceived as a brown nose, but this has to be said: The moderation is doing a pretty good job, if you'll allow me. Matters are handled both efficiently and effectively and their participation in these types of topics, giving their opinions, feedback, and listening to the public, is great. Keep it up, guys.

 

I can honestly see why it'd be slightly difficult for some people to keep away from posting insulting replies to commonly asked questions, however, it isn't impossible. Practically anyone can do it, I think.

The same goes for those who are easily offended by replies that they didn't want. If it makes ya mad, then just step away from the computer for a bit, and grab a cup of tea or somethin'. :s

I have to agree that some people are too sensitive, I mean...I never knew silly was an insult.

 

Well you know how it is these days people are a little too sensitive about how you treat people. Which results in a lot of problems if and by it's self

 

Most of us are probably like "Yeah, those guys need to chill out."

But I'd like to challenge (or continue to encourage) the rest of us who aren't part of the problem to engage it whenever we see it, rather than be like the passerby who ignores a mugging in an alley.



It's a great help to parents when the older children are responsible and look after the others.
How much more so for the vastly outnumbered moderators who can't be in every thread at once?

True. As for me, I guess I never really did that because of the fear of being called a backseat moderator. But you're right, why should I care if I am? I feel the need to be a superhero.

I don't actively post on these forums, nor do i comb through every post on the forums. In fact, i check this website daily only for info about Starbound.

But i'm just going to say one thing about this thread: Everyone should expect the internet to give the worst it has to offer, but this is all the more reason to provide shelter to the innocent newbies. Will a newbie just go straight for the newbie section? maybe, maybe not. it can only help, though.

 

I'm always trying to be helpful and polite to them.
