The black hole bomb gave me an idea. Black holes might be overpowered but why not gravity devices used as weapons. The device generates an extreme amount of gravity accelerating everything along a certain vector. Imagine squashing your enemies flat on the ground. Or - accelerating everything upwards with deadly v-load until it leaves the area of influence, falling to certain death in the end. Tell me if I am being a bit bloodthirsty at the moment. Can be easily balanced by area of influence, energy usage, usage count.. Posted in Mechanics because it postulates player influenced gravity as a general functionality.
Well I think it's a great idea. Cause in Borderlands theres a similar grenade like that but I forgot which "brand" it was. Anyways it sucked people in to the epicenter of the grenade and it blows up for max AoE. Even usage of rescue, like if your buddy stepped on one of those collapsible platforms, you can throw the grenade at the roof (assuming they can have a sticky mode) and temporarily make him stick there, while you rebuild the bridge.
Sounds awesome! Throw one on the ceiling of your base, and one on the floor, and you can Slingshot yourself!
Maybe there could be multiple variations - Like, What you described, Maybe also one that stuck to a surface for (x) seconds and then sucked everything (including blocks) towards it (Only light~ish blocks) and maybe another one that produced a gravitational pull to gather the things, and after a bit of "gathering" it would throw it all out in a nice gravity-splosion? Also, Gravity tethers & a Tether tool. Swingie swingie!
That would be likely if the priciple is ever integrated. To use it in different ways i would suggest to program different behavior in advance. Maybe even by parametric input within limits, or script driven. The applications would be very variable. Hovercrafts and platforms, personal gravo-packages (jet packs are so oldschool), gravo-nets (no fall damage), floating buildings, elevators, weapons...
