You could trap someone by placing 4 of the gravity regulators (or 8 for more precision) all around them and making them do the opposite of gravity.

Maybe make a piece of furniture, or a device. Kind of like how they are going to do weather regulators and terraformers.

I mentioned blocks before because I would prefer it as a blocks and here are the reasons why:
Blocks would work better than furniture/device because they would be easier to hide, probably rather rare and found only on high threat level planets/dungeons, smaller and effect a more precise area, would not require a power source (again, better for planets/dungeons), and you could make the floor with them without blocking other furniture.

I also thought of how it could be done as a device, just in case that does not persuade anyone:
Placed like furniture, it might be similar in appearance to a pressure switch that is three block wide, with some added decoration of some sort.
The space above the grav-pad would be altered, again, based on the color of the pad and by the degrees that I mentioned In my earlier post.

I don't think that the gravity regulators should produce the effect in a radius. It would be much less useful since the area would not cover as much vertical area.
Radius effects give much less control over where the effect is placed. If you want to use this sort of thing for traps, it should be primarily straight above the device/block.

Radius vs. vertical vs. horizontal should be a choice, it can apply to different situations.

The added horizontal area would be less helpful because it would be easier to jump out of it.
Like, obviously if the radius was 20 blocks in all directions it would be better than something that only did 20 blocks straight up.
But technically, the radius would have to be about 3 blocks in each direction, since then it would cover about the same number of blocks as the straight line.
I could just hop over a three blocks high gravity field, but twenty blocks high would be a much bigger obstacle. I'd be forced to walk through it.

On a side note, you could have those falling blocks from the Apex picture, with a platform about four blocks above it. People aren't worried because they can just hop up to the platform, but then they realize they are in a gravity field, but by then the blocks are already falling. You could be by it with a grapple, so not that great of a trap, but it would be fun to see their faces when they realize what happened. You might even zap a few people who do have grapples if they are surprised enough.

Derp, hmmmmmmm, gravity regulators, good idea, derp.

Nice-ish idea, but you need to explain the mechanics more.

I went into more detail regarding possible mechanics.
Look for my post that has Green, Orange, and Purple in it. It's near the bottom of the first page.
You can't make any inescapable traps with my version, but it would still be useful for many things.

I think a good way to go about with this, is to have gravity manipulating blocks, and perhaps gravity plating you could craft with them. For example you could have a gravity plate on the floor and one on the ceiling, by manipulating the strength of the pull of each plate, you could for example make a gravity elevator that lets you easily and safely go up or down floors of a building. It could be controlled by hitting switches at each floor to control which way the net gravitational pull is going. With this kind of system you could have complete control over the strength and direction of gravity in a room. Imagine creating a completely gravity free room in your base, or creating normal gravity in bases on planets with very little gravity. Or you could even use the gravity itself as a trap by setting a room to extremely high gravity and crushing anyone/anything that enters!

This would be fun, especially if they include game physics so that liquids are also affected by the gravity fields. You could decorate your house with a ring of eternally flowing water. Or design an upside-down waterfall elevator.
