The gravity glove would be like a vacuum or tractor beam that is generated by a glove. It could pull blocks toward you and when they reach the glove they would go into your inventory. It could also work with small-medium sized enemies that would get pulled in then when they reach the glove they start to take small amounts of damage and if they die from this then the items they drop get sucked into the glove and put into your inventory.

Would the item be used more for block collection or would it actually do decent damage with the beam effect? Would energy power it? How would you find/craft it? (randomly found in dungeon chests, crafted, quest rewards etc)
Uses energy to power it.There would be two versions one mainly for block collecting, that does very little damage but doesn't use much power. The other version would do decent damage, would pull things in faster, and would have a larger beam, but requires large amounts of energy. It would be crafted from parts that you get from special quest that are specifically for this item.
I was thinking of something a bit like the gravity gun from Half Life 2, but this seems like an interesting concept, if a bit redundant.
This feels a bit like what the Particle Manipulator is for already, but I like the idea of having a glove.
This would be a pretty good item for early game progression and building, i have to admit, not to mention looking somewhat badass. For example, imagine you are apart from a pit for whatever reason, then you shoot a monster from the other side of it and it's stuck on where you can't reach the loot, use this item to get it. Or same place mentioned above, but you've been editing blocks with your tool and they keep falling in to the pit. It'd be a hassle to build all the way down and back up again just to grab them so you use this nifty glove. I 100% approve of this item, as long as it's gotten fairly early in the game or is included as a feature in your starting tool so it's not overlooked later because you have rocket boots or something.
Maybe that gravity-glove could work like the gravity-gun from Half-Life: Pull in, hold, and throw away. Throwing little mobs at big mobs... just sayin'.
As much as I love power gloves, I do think this could wind up being pretty redundant with the whole matter manipulator thing. I do think it could work if it were more combat-oriented, though. Despite the slight redundance, I'm in full support of this idea. "I love the Power Glove, it's so bad."
The idea sounds cool! One could "pick" with the glove 2x2 blocks (for example) out of the surface and throw them to enemys or just to replace the blocks somewhere else. Especially the "reach the dropped loot" with the gloves is awesome. It should consume much energy and not destroy any blocks (for easily farming gold etc.) grappling hook features = gloves features *cough* (dragging urself on the ceiling of a cave! Pushing yourself away from the ground!) One should be able to grap a monster (or player ) and throw push it away. Hence Monster strength > used energy for the glove = no grap Just to add some mind sh*t. I support the idea!
Maybe instead of a new item all together, it could act as an upgrade to the matter manipulator. One that gives more options when manipulating blocks and possibly mobs.
Am I the only person who can't find an actual use for such an item in game? It's not like blocks fall or obey physics at all. Can't really pick up and throw things stuck to a grid.
An item that can quickly remove / displace sections of blocks? Very useful for terraforming areas if you want to reuse the material, or...screwing with someone's buildings. I'm not entirely for this idea, since it would conflict with the pickaxe/drill (fast removal of magmarock OP!) and wouldn't seem to have much unique purpose except to break things faster, from a farther distance.
Man, if only we had some sort of way to quickly remove blocks. Like...some sort of pickaxe or something. Or a drill.
I don't consider going through magmarock as "fast" even with a diamond drill, heh. This idea sounded like instant displacement, which is about 15 times faster than drilling through the magmarock. Or obsidian, or blaststone.
I'd enjoy an item that lets you pull in item drops from afar. It would reduce the chance of losing stuff by dropping it.
