Now that we have grappling hooks, I am pretty sure we'd all benefit from blocks you can't hook up to. I mean, what can be worse than having your Super Fortress of Deth™ with all it's Dethtreps™ passed in second by some random guy with a grappling hook? So yes, my solution to this is simple: A simple type of generic block that, if you shoot the grappling hook at it, simply breaks the rope. I have little clue on how the grappling hook works but I assume this shouldn't be hard to create... hopefully.

It could also result in some interesting puzzles. Like how portal had surfaces you couldn't portal. However, I don't think most people would want their Supah Deth Fartress 8 Bajilliunz to have an extra layer of blocks, it would look awkward and take longer to build. How about an applied quality? Like a coating you could make and put on any block.
Like a kind of painting tool? Not sure if that would be possible, but ccertainly usefull. I would also like it if the grappling hit electricity, it would run back to the grappling hook user. Also, it should not work on sand and too hard a material.
I personally don't like this idea, even if you could make your outer base walls grapple proof, that's not going to stop people from jetpacking/dirt towering their way up
this is true but at least that is more effort to get enough dirt to tower up or enough energy to jet-pack in
I think this is a good idea for many reasons, mostly related to the generated dungeons and parkour maps.
Yeah, but turrets and other cool stuff can always fend of flyboys, and towers take a while to be built... plus they're significantly easier to notice!
Sounds good. Adds more diversity and challenge to areas of the game. I imagine that grappling hooks will be very easy to use and useful in certain situations, so any means of limiting the efficiency of the grappling hook is always a good idea. People will have to be better at thinking on the spot.
also it may add another aesthetic to the game that many people who design just for looks can use, i don't do this myself but i can see the appeal of adding gloss to a block for affect, also i agree that anyone trying to get in still has defenses to deal with, this seems like an easily applied function and great for tower type bases, also for jet-packers and while were on the subject of jet-packs, why not add a turret that shoots grappling hooks and catches jet-packers? like it wont let them go above a certain altitude during flight within a radius?
I definitely agree on this aspect, it just makes sense. Though I could see it being left out in favor of general exploration. You're cool! Tleno is cool! Everybody is cool!!!! And you can stand imposingly up top in that spiky, ominous tower by your stained glass window of malicious observation. Watching the chaos ensue as their futile efforts break against your thoughtful defenses, laughing evil, maniacal laughs. AHAHAHA! Die, unworthy peasants!
