As interesting as the suggestions are regarding monsters and societies and such, I'm interested in the idea of encountering races that are so far removed from the 7 established player races as far as advancement or power level that they can't even really be given statistics per se as far as strength and defense.

Godlike aliens are all over science fiction. The stereotypical examples are the Star Trek aliens who capture the crew and place them in mortal danger as part of some "test," such as the Metrons who showed up at the end of the "Arena" episode with the Gorn fight, or the Q Continuum constantly putting humanity on trial. Other godlike creatures might include the Vorlons, the Great Cthulhu, the creators of the Monoliths in 2001, the Ori and other "ascended" beings from Stargate, etc. There can be no fights with the godlike creatures. They cannot be harmed by the likes of you. They will either ignore you or obliterate you. That's not to say they can't be interacted with. One could attempt to speak with them and learn some of their secrets or ask for their assistance. Or one might be forced to interact with them because of their strange, unknowable motivations to interfere with your lowly species. A race of godlike aliens might force the player into a side quest to escape from a pocket dimension and prove their intelligence or fight with another being to prove their ability or make peace with another being to prove their compassion.

On the other extreme, the player may suddenly find themselves encountering intelligent creatures that are absolutely helpless in comparison. Something beyond the mere "race of primitives armed with stones and sticks" motif. Primitives armed with stones and sticks could conceivably overcome the player. But there may be a race of creatures so tiny that the entire world they inhabit is a tiny stone in the desert. The player may choose to intervene in their world for good or ill, but once again, there can be no fights. Should the tiny creatures seek to engage in combat, you can either ignore them or destroy them.

Such races can be the source of side quests and rewards and potentially powerful artifacts without all the bother of "statting" and strengths and weaknesses.

Seems like they would have to be part of the metaplot.

Cool idea but its kinda already in the game. The creators of the glitch fit the description so maybe they will play a larger role in the games story line.
